Vehicle Detail
The goal of the build was to keep the stock look of an original, high optioned 1969 Camaro RS SS then upgrade the chassis, suspension, engine, brakes, interior. The frame off restoration took five years and was completed in 2014. It has only been driven 6700 miles since completion. Everything works well and runs just as good as it looks. The car comes with a binder that contains receipts and pictures of all major work that documents the build process. Engine:The engine is essentially new and has been broken in properly. Has approximately 10-12 hours of drive time on it. It is a 4 bolt main 454 stroked to 489 CI. The receipts shown describe the parts included with this build. It is very reliable. No leaks smoking hard starting or backfiring. The engine has a mild idle that is not overbearing and idles at 800 rpm nicely. Power is quick, smooth and predictable. Enormous torque that pulls extremely hard to 4800 rpm. Engine builder broke in the motor and set it up at his shop on an engine dyno. He documented the process with a video and paper docs. HP is documented at 485.Engine is cooled by a new 4 core copper radiator and all new lines. High volume water pump. Cowling in place with a 7 blade stock BBC fan. Engine does not get hot during driving or at idle in 90 degree weather. New 2.5 inch exhaust with X pipe. I used Hooker Super Comps that fit perfectly with no denting of the tubes to get clearance. Magna Flow mufflers sound very good on this car. Exhaust exits just behind rear wheels. TransmissionTremec TKO 600 5 speed with 0.64 OD. Approximately 300 miles on it and the new clutch/pressure plate/throwout/pilot bearing. New 621 Bell housing aligned to transmission center shaft. New custom drive shaft and u joints. CenterForce Dual Friction clutch with newly resurfaced flywheel and new ring gear. RPM's are at 1800 at 70 mph. Chassis:All parts were removed cleaned and reassembled as the body and associated parts were painted. Doors disassembled, window bushings and rollers replaced. Glass aligned to door and new seals. Front end disassembled and new bushings tie rod ends replaced on all associated parts. The front end has been aligned and a rebuilt power steering pump with the tight ratio power steering box installed. All in excellent working order. Cowl Induction hood with flapper valve is fully functional and engages at approximately 2/3rd of throttle movement. No rust in the trunk. Battery moved here along with the remote starter solenoidSuspension has been gone through. New shocks on all 4 corners. New HD springs up front for BBC. HD leaf springs in the rear. . Hotchkiss sport suspension frame stiffeners professionally installed. Caltrac's traction bars installed then removed. Included with the carNew fuel tank and 3/8 fuel lines. Locking fuel cap. Rear End:The original rear diff was removed and replaced with a freshly rebuilt 10 bolt 3.42 posi unit. Unknown donor car. No leaks or issues. Brakes:Original front brakes were upgraded to power disc. No issues. Brake booster and master cylinder all new. Rears were left drum style. Emergency brake works smooth. Paint & Body:The paint is Fathom Green which is the original factory color. It is in very good/excellent condition. No rust, no hit body. All original GM sheet metal excluding the hood. No dings/dents. All work done professionally. The RS hideaway headlight kit was installed and works perfectly. RS tail lights to match. Original front and rear bumpers have some hazing but no rust or pitting. 427 badging was used to maintain a period correct look. 396 badging will be included. Interior:The interior was Deluxe Sea Foam Green from the factory. I replaced that with a Deluxe black interior. All new door panels, "A"pillar trim, package tray. Zero rust on the floorboards. The floors doors firewall ceiling and rear cabin were prepped and covered in dynamat. All seats have new foam and seat covers front and back. Carpet is new. Sunvisor is deleted but all parts I chose not to use will go with the car. Electrical:The entire wiring harness was removed and new wiring harnesses were installed. This was done to accommodate the new gauge packages, air conditioning and various options added. The charging system was upgraded to 10 SI. The HD battery was relocated to the trunk. It is also wired for a GPS tracker which is not included. Wheels & Tires:BF Goodrich radial TA's 215 60 R front and 235 60 R in the back. 6700 miles on them. Rally wheels turbine centers and trim rings new. General information on the build The AM radio is non functional. It is a face plate only. The sound system has been moved to the glove box. There is an air/fuel ratio gauge that is plumbed into the header collector and routed to the gauge that is also in the glove box. The antenna has been deleted and a chrome plug is installed in its place. Vintage Air AC was wired in, installed tested. After several years the compressor, condenser and associated lines in the engine bay were removed due to non use. The system can be reinstalled easily if desired. These parts will be included in the sale. Heating system functions normally IE defrost/ cabin heat. Hood lock was installed and releases from the interior with a key. Battery has a quick disconnect feature. I have hundreds of photos documenting the entire restoration process. If you need a picture of a certain part of the build I probably have it. I will include all this info with the sale of the car. If you are looking for a highly optioned 1969 Camaro in factory new condition and are not worried about matching numbers or originality this is the car you want. I built this car based on what I liked so there are trim pieces I purposely left out. Many of these pieces will come with the car. I also have the stripe kit (Z28) , 4 speed m22 transmission and correct shifter (for console cars) , linkage and trans mount. They are included along with the sale. There will be a pallet load of items that were original and not used as well as some parts that the new owner may want. Th RS reverse lights are included and the windshield wiper fluid pump were not a priority so I did not install them. The windshield wiper works perfectly as do all the gauges, turn signals, emergency lights, dome light, exterior lights etc The speedometer/Odometer was replaced when the dash was gone through. The mileage shown is the actual mileage that the car has been driven since the restoration. The car will come with 2 sets of keys, owners manual and the original Protect-Plate tagsIt has never been raced on the street or track. Always stored indoors. Adult owned non smoker. I built this car to cruise in and have enjoyed taking it to car shows. It is time to pass it on to another Camaro enthusiast. Email with any questions and I will be glad to answer them.
