This is an incredibly rare fully restored 1995 E31 BMW 840Ci in factory Hellrot Red - the same Sikens paint color used by both Porsche and Ferrari. Just 7,216 E31’s came to the states from 1991 to 1997 and according to www.8coupe.com (i.e. the BMW 8 Series Registry), only 126 came in this amazing color. Acquired in North Carolina in 2006 from one of the co-founders of Southeast Sharkfest, this “ULTIM8” BMW coupe’s origina M60 Nikasil block “sulfered” the same fate of many early M60 engines in the U.S. as too much sulfur in U.S. fuel had eaten away at the Nikasil coating on the aluminum cylinder walls. I put what I understand was the last M60 Alusil block in North America in the car several years ago, work performed here in RI by a personal friend, Leo David, a BMW MasterTech with nearly 30 years of experience. Repowering her was only a small part of all that was done to this absolutely stunning machine. Complete sunroof rebuild and replacement of headliner. New catalytic converters, O2 sensors, PVC valve housing, steering gearbox, front struts and springs and rear shocks, control arms, brakes and rotors (genuine BMW parts), radiator, all hoses and fuel lines were all done. Additionally, fuel pump and general module have been replaced. Absolutely no electrical issues with this vehicle. The car was resprayed three years ago by Tri-Star Auto body in Seekonk, MA. Thousands of dollars of exterior components were replaced with new factory parts - front and rear bumper covers, door gaskets, rubber trim and grilles. Pictures to document. Finish was wet sanded and is truly better than new - absolutely no orange peel. This car was intended to be my wife's "baby" but truth be told she seldom drove it. It has sat in my four-car garage with three other BMWs, our daily drivers and my Concours-winning E24 M6.Roughly $25,000 invested in here. You are effectively getting yourself a brand new car. BMW 8 Series (chassis code: E31) is a Grand Tourer built by the German automaker BMW. While it did supplant the original 6 Series, a common misconception is that the 8 Series was developed as a successor. However, it was actually an entirely new class aimed at a different market, with a substantially higher price and better performance than the 6 series. The car's odometer actually reads approximately 126,000 miles, which I can confirm, just not in front of the car at the moment. The tires are Firestone Firehawk and virtually brand new with no visible tread wear. Bosch batteries are both less than a year old. Torque converter was also replaced when I redid the transmission, it did not fail, it simply had an annoying whine. A/C is R134 and works flawlessly. There are no check engine lights no gremlins. Parked her in front of the showroom entrance. To no surprise, every sales person on the showroom floor came out to see what had just pulled up. One summoned their used car manager, Jason Brown, no relation. His words included "showroom condition", "you are right, the paint on this car is absolutely amazing", "this vehicle is immaculate" and of course, yes, you are welcome to mention what I just said in your listing. He also included "very difficult to price". "I'd love to have it on the showroom floor but not sure how long it would sit and honestly would be too much of a distraction". Another salesman's remark was "I can't believe it, there is not even a hint of orange peel, yes, whoever painted this car knew what they were doing".
