Vehicle Detail
1981 Jet Electrica (Mercury Lynx) Completely drivable and 100% electric car built by Jet Industries of Austin, TX. This is not a conversion. It is a factory built electric vehicle. Jet purchased these new from Ford as "gliders" without internal combustion components and built them as electric vehicles. If you're wanting to get into an EV, acquiring one of the older lead battery types is the way to go. Not only is it more economical but all EV's, whether modern or from the 80's, share the same basic EV drive system parts. The modern ones simply have more electronics attached. Many folks are purchasing these lead EV's and converting them to lithium and saving thousands of dollars compared to buying a newer EV. One main reason for converting is that the weight of the lead batteries robs the car of range and performance. Most lead cars are just not meant for long trips or highway speeds. This car is a perfect candidate for conversion to lithium and would lose more than 800 lbs in total weight. That's significant. Check out EV West on the web. These guys are creating older lithium powered cars that have great power and range. I relisted this car in hopes that someone would be interested. It's a time capsule and in really good condition. If it isn't sold after this auction, I'm going to remove all of the batteries and electric drive components and sell the car for scrap. Here is a youtube video I made of the car last year. Copy and paste this into the address bar of your browser: https://youtu.be/txTbxyyIO1s Drivetrain: Transmission: Original 4 speed Ford Tires: 185/70-13, lots of tread and a little dry rot here and there Batteries: Drive batteries: 16 x 6 volt lead batteries purchased from Batteries Plus. 230 amp hour each. Newly installed Sep '16 Car battery: 12 volt, 100 amp hour. Newly installed Sep '16 Electric drive components: Power: 96 volt electric drive system Motor: Prestolite MTC-4001 series dc Charger: Jet on board charger, uses 220 volt L6-30 plug Controller: Curtis 1221C controller - new heat sink added Sep '16 DC to DC converter: Kelly 96V to 13.5V converter - installed Sep '16 Wiring: All battery interconnects changed from 1 gauge to 1/0 welding cable with new copper lugs in Sep '16. Condition: Interior: Excellent overall. Radio, lights, gauges all work. Exterior: Overall very straight with some blemishes. Rear hatch has a couple dents. These were caused by me when I brought the car home and was rolling it off the trailer. Right front fender has major fading. Besides that the rest of the paint looks pretty good. Misc: Only 13,000 miles Clear title and registration in my name Range: approx. 45 miles in it's current configuration. Range varies by driving style and road conditions. AC and Heat: Gas heat and electric AC systems were removed since they weren't functioning. There is a pic of a pallet with all the parts that were removed. This is a used vehicle so there is no warranty of any kind. No returns or refunds. Sale will be final. This is a local pickup sale. I cannot deliver it but will do what I can to assist in your shipment of this vehicle.
