Vehicle Detail

1960 Matchless G80CS Motorcycle Engine Number 60/G80CS3500 Frame Number C9081 Original Milage -unknown - 450 since rebuild in the 1990's rebuild This is a very nice running riding 1960 Matchless G80CS 500cc competition scrambler motorcycle with correct 1960 matching numbers for the frame, engine and gearbox as you can see from the photographs, this beautiful and rare Matchless G80CS is a lightly used ridden motorcycle, I have ridden this motorcycle a few hundred miles since I have owned it, you can check my you tube video link is here, of cold start and running/riding - https://youtu.be/bgM-Sk6LFbA . This bike was restored in the 1990's by previous owner it has done just over 440 miles since the restoration, I have no documentation for this he was well in his 90's and only have his word and the condition of the motorcycle as proof, and as you can see the bike is very clean and in very nice clean running and riding condition it is not 100% correct - has wrong seat swapped for much more comfy than the original with a vintage period correct Bates Scrambler seat, lower front fender stay is incorrect, maybe wrong bars, rear light is Lucas with a lovely glass lens but is off a late 1940's MG TC, and the electric's are set up to run battery-less with a Zener diode and rectifier from the alternator, so lights run and work without the aid of a battery - there is no horn, lucas ammeter and high low are not hooked up. These bikes are getting very rare, as they were only made a few hundred per year. This motorcycle is in I would say in well above average condition for used motorcycle, but as seen it is a rider and not perfect, there are some incorrect nuts and bolts in places - otherwise as seen all correct, there are scratches and wear in places couple of tiny blemished on the gas tank, paint loss on the oil tank. It runs excellent with no smoke, tons of torque, surprisingly these bikes handle really well on twisty roads and go great down trails, these late duplex frame G80CS 500cc short stroke Matchless engines are about as good as they get in my opinion i love riding these bikes. The transmission shifts with the familiar feel of the superb AMC 4 speed gearbox of the period, gearbox and goes through all gears exactly as it should, this motorcycle starts first kick, hot, cold or wet, very easily and runs great. BUT you must learn the correct starting procedure. As seen it has the Amal 389 Mono block carb or as an option only a GP carb was available from the dealer. The wheels have correct dunlop rims which are decent but far from perfect chrome, both correct 19 inch front and rear. This particular bike is very nice to ride very smooth and enjoyable vintage machine that is good for long and short distance rides in any weather and on any type of road, it's brakes are extremely good for the period and size but obviously not as good as modern brakes. The tires are brand new Shinko Trials with about 50 miles on them. All the bright work is nice but this not a show bike it was built to ride and has been ridden in all weather and never let me down. Again this is an older restored motorcycle and not a show quality but as above it is an above average rider with low milage on rebuilt engine. for the most part but everything is very presentable as seen in the photos below and it could easily be taken to show quality without to much effort. The speedometer is a fully working Smiths chronometric which shows 420 miles, but I have no idea of the actual original mileage of this machine. Overall this bike has a great patina and in my opinion is just how you would want to have a bike that you can ride and which runs and rides great, and I am sure this bike can be ridden just as it is for many years and years to come. These top of the line late 500cc competition models are becoming harder and harder to find in any condition.
