Vehicle Detail

Extremely rare 1972 Buick Skylark Gran Sport 350 Convertible with a factory 4 speed. There were only 39 of the 1972 GS350 convertibles ordered with a 4 speed manual transmission. To make this car even more unusual, the original purchaser chose to special order the exterior paint color. It was ordered in code 73 or vintage red poly. That color was only available on the 1972 Buick Riviera (See the photos for a glimpse of this beautiful color that is still present in the door jambs beneath the yellow paint). The combination of those two options on this car more than likely make it the only one ever built. The car was ordered and bought new at Whelan Pontiac-Buick Inc. in Freehold N.J..I planned on doing a "quickie" driver quality restoration on this car until I found out how special it actually is.I now think that it should get a high level professional restoration that I am not equipped to do (or pay for) at this time.Remember,It would cost about the same amount of money, time, and effort to restore this car as it would cost to restore any old average classic convertible. Why not start with a special car like this to guarantee a nice return on your investment? Not to mention having the only one like it! Let me tell you about the car's condition. The original 350 engine is gone, but the good news is that it was replaced with a good running 1971 455. The Stage 1 emblems and the 455 decals were added during a prior restoration. The original numbers matching Muncie M21 4 speed is still in the car.The rear axle is a buick 12 bolt posi. The factory "rallye suspension" rear sway bar and the boxed lower control arms are still in place. The body of this car has the typical NJ rust issues. The yellow paint job has seen much better days. The rear 1/4 panels will need repair or replacement. The rest of the body panels are not that bad but some will need basic rust repair. The trunk floor is shot so plan on replacing that. The drivers front floor has been patched while the passenger front floor has some rust that will need attention. The rear floor pans look good on both sides. The frame does not appear rusty or crusty. It does have a plate welded near the steering box bolts and a similar reinforcement near the passenger side sway bar mount bolts. The hard to find parts are here and in very good condition including the GS hood, the 1972 specific air cleaner, and the GS front grill. Also on the car is a straight and solid rear bumper with the optional exhaust cut outs. All four chrome buick sport wheels are in nice shape and so are the tires. The power convertible top works with just a little help but it does have some rips and a broken rear window. This car has been sitting in storage until recently. It was not started or driven for at least 5 years before I put fresh gas and a new battery in it.It now runs, drives, and stops but it would need a good mechanical check up before hitting the road. No,I would not try driving it home. I have the complete documentation package from the Sloan Buick archives museum verifying the rare configuration of this car.I am selling this PROJECT car AS IS.It will need a complete and total restoration.Feel free to come and see the car before bidding.Serious buyers only please! I have a clear NJ title in my name. I require a $500 deposit within 48 hours of the auction ending and full payment within 7 days. I can keep the car here longer if you need extra time to pick it up. Feel free to ask any questions as I may have forgotten something.
