Vehicle Detail

For sale is my lovely 1970 Porsche 914/4. Very early first year production date in May of 1970. Car is incredibly fun to drive. Front end is very light and it steers like a go kart. If you are looking to do a 6 cylinder conversion, this is a fantastic candidate. These cars are going up in value quite rapidly and with prices easily passing $20,000 this is a fantastic deal with a very low reserve. In December 2015, Bloomberg stated that "vintage Porsches are rising as the next blue chip classic cars" citing an increase in value of between 100%-189% over the past 5 years. This is a great opportunity to buy an early production desirable color car. First off a little history. I bought the car from the neighbor of a friend of mine. I had seen the car sitting for multiple years and after months and months of planning, I finally made her an offer and she accepted. She told me the car was from California and that she had bought it but in her 6 years of ownership had never driven it. She kept it for the most part inside of her garage but unfortunately for the bumper caps, it was in the weather for some of that time. The desert tends to destroy rubber quite quickly. So, when I sell a car I try to be as exhaustively thorough as possible so this may get long. Body: Body is in great shape with little to no rust. I've been through a lot of the car in getting the car back to roadworthy and beyond a few bubbles in the paint here and there there is no major rust. Paint buffed and polished right up and I installed some wonderful 1970's era replica livery which I had custom made by a graphic designer based on a famous 1970 914GT that I wanted to model the car after. Floorpans are very solid and so is front and rear trunk. There is rust in the hell hole. I'm sure it will need to be repaired but I haven't had to address it. There was a small dent put into the rear trunk by the previous owner that needs to be addressed and resprayed. I have another deckled which will be included in the sale. The top of the decklid also has some dents from the previous owner setting items on the car while it was in storage. I'm sure a good body shop could sort them out fairly cheaply. Some of the rubber has become a bit brittle in some areas including the rubber trim around the targa panel and the bumper caps are badly deteriorated and need replacing. Besides that it's in great shape. I have the front and rear valances which need to be painted before installation. The rear valance is brand new from Auto Atlanta and the front is the original with the car but needs some reconditioning. Engine:Engine is the factory #'S matching 1.7L engine and 901 transmission. Engine runs very strongly. It has been fitted with a set of Dellorto DLRA 35 performance carburators. They are downdraft dual barrel carbs. Many 914 guys feel they are a better performance carb to the Webber because they have a better progressive fueling. Meaning they run a lot better on the street. The car is very peppy, its close to qualifying for fast even. The dellortos were professionally rebuilt by the previous owner and hadn't been installed since the rebuild when I bought the car. They were given to me in a box with the card of the shop that did the work. I installed them and rebuilt the carburetor linkage. The ignition timing has been fully rebuilt, condenser, points, rotor, cap, plugs, & wires were replaced when I bought it. I also fitted the car with a handmade Bursch exhaust system. I bought the street/track system which had a great throaty bark to it. It is a blast to drive. I also pulled the fuel tank and had it treated before installation so the fuel system is brand new as well. Engine was just tuned recently, ignition timing was set, valves were all adjusted, and the carburetors were finely tuned as well. It is a very peppy great running engine. The transmission was fully serviced with new gear oil. I also have the rebuild kit for the shift linkage to try and get rid of the infamous sloppy 901 vagueness but haven't had the time to install. Interior:I replaced most of the interior since I purchased the car. I installed new perlon felt carpets from auto Atlanta. I also replaced the dash face material as well as installed a radio delete panel. I pulled the door panels and lubricated all of the interior mechanicals including the window regulators. The drivers side regulator still sticks a bit here and there. Door panels need some work to be 100%. I installed a brand new Momo Prototipo steering wheel and custom boss adaptor to look like a famous canary yellow 914 race car the livery is based on. I also replaced the high beam relay, turn signal flasher and switch, and multiple other smaller electrical items. The car has been sitting for a few months and I'm having issues with the headlights lifting but the fuse panels are notorious for corroding and causing electrical gremlins. Chassis:The chassis of the car feels very tight. It has a set of mini lite looking empi 8 spokes which fit the car very well. Tires are about 70% and in great shape. Brake system has been fully bled and serviced. I replaced the rear trailing arm bushings which was a big job, as well as the rear springs. Lately the rear end has been feeling a bit sloppy so I bought a brand new set of shocks but haven't had a chance to install them on the car. The P/O also cut a small hole in the rear trunk to access the upper starter motor bolt??? I will weld this up before the car is transferred to the new owner. What does it need??Not much.. could use paint repair in the rear on the decklid and the targa needs to be resealed at some point as well as some other miscellaneous seals replaced. Dash could be replaced and the windshield has a crack in it. Also heater controls are not connected, so that needs sorting. That's it, otherwise it is ready for years and of enjoyment. So after 100's of hours of work and thousands of $$'S I'm selling my pride and joy we lovingly refer to as "Butzi". We have set the reserve at many thousands below what the NADA value is for a poor conditioned vehicle. Even if the hell hole needs repair soon, the bid I got was $1,200 and you'd have a completely rust free early production (5/70) car for thousands less than the NADA value dictates. Thank you for looking.
