I have owned dozens of Jaguars XK8s and these cars are a great fun to drive. However, they need a lot of maintenance to keep in top shape. These repairs will run into the six figures or more in any of these cars. Any other Jaguar XK8 you buy on eBay will add thousands to your purchase price due to repair after repair and down time with the car being stuck at the shop taking time away from your enjoyment. My hobby is working on these cars and after I am done fixing them I put them up for sale. So here is your chance to own a mechanically perfect Jaguar XK8 with all of the problems that these cars could have being taken care of, so that you can drive and enjoy this Jaguar for years to come without worries that the car will break down and put a hole in your finances. Here is the list of everything that has been done to this car and don't be fooled by other adds touting a perfect car. Unless all these repairs and updates are done, those other XK8s will break down and leave you stranded. Is not a matter of if but when, it will come to bite your wallet. So bid now and own a trouble free Jaguar XK8 with all the demons exorcised for good. List of preventive repairs. All Jaguars XK8s before 2002 need most of these done, even the cars with low miles need updates to the timing chain tensioners at the very least. These repairs were all done to prevent a bigger problem down the road. 1. - Upper and lower plastic timing chain tensioners replaced with the updated metal tentioners, chain guides and chains replaced as well. Most people will only replace the easy secondary tensioner at the top and leave the plastic primary one down below to break down together with the chain guides. 2. - Spark plugs, crankshaft front seal, thermostat, thermostat tower, water pump, radiator, valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, spark plug gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, air filter, part load hose and full load hose, left and right heater hoses, alternator, AC compressor, hood lifts all these were replaced as well. 3.- Driver seat was getting a little tired from all those years on the road so bought a perfect matching seat from a low miles XK8 and replaced the original one. 4.- The convertible top canvas was beginning to leak and the hydraulic hoses were desintegrating and leaking (this is a common problem in these cars). Convertible top replaced with brand new black canvas top and hoses were replaced with ones that don't desintegrate. 5.- Another big problem area in all these XK8 before 2003 is the ZF 5HP24 transmission breaking the A drum because of an over pressure. Transmission has been retrofitted with a pressure relief valve to prevent this costly problem. Valve body was examined as well and the transmission fluid was replaced with the correct fluid: ZF Lifeguard. 6.- Front springs were beginning to zag due to the heavy weight these cars have in the front (common in all XK8 and XKRs). Both front springs were replaced, front and rear shock mounts were replaced as well and all 4 shocks were replaced with brand new Bilsteins that should last you another 100 thousand miles. All of the fun repairs have been done so if you are looking for a project car buy any of the other XK8s for sale on eBay or Craiglist and I assure you that you will have to work in at least a couple of the problems areas mentioned above and spent at the very least $5000 in repairs.
