Vehicle Detail
1971 Buick GranSport Convertible still in the original Code 75 "Fire Red" If you have been looking for that classic muscle car investment then this rare Classic Original Fire Red GranSport Convertible just may have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, when the top goes down the price goes up! According to the previous owner this Buick does have the original numbers matching 350 engine. I'm a Cutlass/442 guy, so I just know where to look for the block numbers on an Oldsmobile, but never learned where on a Buick. If anyone is concerned and would care to explain where to check numbers I will gladly verify the authenticity of the block. I can say that from every thing I've learned over the years I would personally say this does appear to be the original engine that came with the car when new. I picked this Buick up in a trade a few weeks ago. I'm selling this car as needing a complete restoration where every part and every panel will need to be restored or repaired to bring this GranSport back to its former glory. I was told this car had never been in any accidents, and everywhere I inspected I saw no signs of this car ever having any major damage. In my opinion I would say all the panels can be used in a restoration, but to save time I would want the rear quarter panels replaced if I were doing the restoration. The bumpers look fairly straight, but could use a re-chrome. All the panels look original to the car. With each passing year, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find any true GranSports for a reasonable price. To find one in its original coat of paint would be nearly impossible selling at "No Reserve" especially in Code 75 "Fire Red" and a convertible. I'm sure most muscle car guys will agree that this color and interior combination is one of the most popular and most desirable. This body was simply touched up with some spray paint to protect the areas of concern until the proper restoration arrives. This Buick does have its original steel Genuine GM GranSport Ram-Air hood, not an aftermarket fiberglass replacement. This Buick has not been started since the mid 1980's, so getting it back roadworthy will be left up to the winning bidder. All I know is once this car is restored to its former beauty the new owner will most likely have endless thumbs up wherever they drive. You should have an outgoing personality to drive a car like this, because everywhere you go people will be attracted to you like a magnet. The engine was detailed and appears to have most of its original components that came on this GranSport from the factory 46 years ago with the exception of the ram-air air cleaner. I think that came off of a 1972 GranSport, because of the triangle scoop on the drivers side, and I don't believe the carburetor is the original. It is bolted down in place under the air cleaner, but the linkage is not hooked up. This Buick came with Power Steering, Power Convertible Top, Sonomatic AM/FM Stereo Radio, and the extra bumper guards on the front and rear bumpers. The convertible top appears to be an original, so the entire top will need to be replaced at some point, but it does have the back glass window option and that item may be able to be saved during the new top installation. The bottom cloth portion under the back glass still looks good. The blue manufacturer's driver door decal is still present that shows the vehicle identification number. The corners of the doors are still good and both doors open and close nicely. The trunk lid is also in nice condition. This car was originally a plain Jane bench seat car, but bucket seats were added at some point and the bench seat was discarded. There was also a center console placed in between the bucket seats with the horseshoe shifter. Hooking up the floor shift will be up to the new owner if they wish. I've done about a dozen bench seat conversion to bucket seats and a console on many Cutlass models over the years and it is a relatively simple process. This car currently has a column shift. The drivers side rear arm rest panel is missing. I do have a 1971 Cutlass bench seat if the new owner wants to make this GranSport correct for the way it came ordered new. I will gladly include that bench seat with this purchase. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and will need repair work. The carpeting could use replacement as well, but there is a brand new set of four black carpeted floor mats. This GranSport has a set of four P225/60R14" Goodyear Eagle ST raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with very good tread and still have the new tire nubbies on the sides mounted on Buick Chrome Rally Wheels with all four center caps and all new chrome lug nuts. I never had the car up on a lift, but from everywhere I looked the frame looks in good condition. I believe the rear-end to be whatever the GranSport had for Posi-Traction in 1971. The original trunk floor will need to be replaced with a new trunk pan. Those can be found at a wide variety of aftermarket muscle car suppliers in a full one piece or a 3-piece trunk pan. The trunk carries a full size chrome Buick Rally Wheel spare tire with an original jack, jack stand, and crow bar. It's always nice to have a spare tire with an original wheel. The original dash pad is in very nice shape with no cracks, and I was told the mileage is correct at just over 72,000. The original AM/FM stereo is still mounted in the dash and the dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day. The left side gauge on the dash is a rally gauge set-up I believe. It seems peculiar that the speedometer and rally gauges are clear, but the one to the right has yellowed. Since I don't know that much about Buick's I'm thinking if it is like a 442 that might be a tic-toc-tac. The new owner can take it apart when they restore the car and see if it's just a clock or a clock with a tachometer. This sale is being made with a clean, clear, and open title. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find in any condition especially in a red convertible with a white interior from the factory. What you see is exactly what you get!! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1971 Buick GranSport Convertible with the 350/260 horsepower listed at $43,890 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $30,250 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer!Nada has the lowest condition value at $10,725 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The numbers don't lie! This original GranSport Convertible is a very valuable automobile if restored properly! This Convertible is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have shown to consistently escalate in value. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price. I tried to list everything I know about this car when writing this description. If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. This Red Diamond in the rough that is being offered for the first time on a quick 3-day "No Reserve" auction that will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 9pm Eastern time, 8pm Central time, and 6pm Pacific time. Thank you for taking the time to view my auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!On Apr-29-17 at 14:36:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I just looked up the production numbers on this 1971 Buick GranSport Convertible and there were only 656 made in that model year. When looking to restore a muscle car it is always best to start with one that is very hard to find.
