Vehicle Detail

Selling my '03 Sprinter van as I no longer use it. It is the long bed (158") high roof model. That means you can easily stand up inside if you're under 6'6", and you've got just over 13' from the divider to the rear doors. That means full rows of carpet, long lumber or trim, kayaks and even canoes fit back there! (Ok, the canoe had to stick through the window opening in the divider, but I closed the rear doors!)I put an LED light in the back that does a great job of lighting things up back there. There are 3 tie-down loops down each side to keep your cargo in place. I'll leave the shelves you see pictured in. They could be attached better, but I've been using them as-is.It's got a tow hitch out back with a 7-pin connector. The van is not close to rust-free, but I've done what I could over time to slow things down. When I bought it, it was white. I sanded it down to remove any rust and primed with a rust inhibiting primer before applying 2 coats of color and 3 coats of clear. Unfortunately, I had less than 2 days to accomplish this, so I didn't get to sand between coats. It's not the greatest paint job, but it's lasted just fine for 5+ years and shows no signs of fading or peeling. I used off the shelf colors from NAPA, so it'd be easy to touch up. I've tried to include pictures of the rust. I've done work as it came up, and kept up the regular maintenance on it for the nearly 6 years I've owned it. A year before I stopped using it I had the brakes done. You can see the tread depth on the tires, which isn't great, but they don't need to be replaced right away either. I've had the injectors replaced, the mass airflow sensor replaced, the transmission completely rebuilt (no more washboard noise!), both fuel pumps replaced, and some other minor things repaired. I just had the windshield removed, sanded away all of the rust, cleaned the area with an acid wash, primed with a rust inhibitor, and then top coated with a 2-in-1 red paint/top coat before having a new windshield installed. I also just had a new block heater installed. Those were both done in the fall. The sliding side door has a new interior handle. I think that door will need to be replaced within 2 years, as rust is starting to come in around the window. I've found them at junkyards for $300-850 in good condition. I just haven't felt the need to do it yet. The rear door has a new Master lock on the outside as the door locks don't work on that door. I hardly ever used it, and didn't want to spend the $250-300 to replace them when this $50 option would work just fine. The rear passenger side door was new 3 years ago, but before I could even get it painted someone hit it when loading pallets into the back for me. I chose to not replace it. It's not perfect, but it is quite rust free & opens/closes fine.I wouldn't hesitate to drive this van anywhere in the country, with a couple of caveats. First, if you drive it for more than 2 1/2 hours at freeway speeds (65+) without stopping, then shut down, it's not going to want to start up again until it's had about 20 minutes to cool down. This is, from what I've read, quite normal, and has something to do with the variety of temperature sensors that it checks before starting. Second, on a cold night it needs to be plugged in in the morning before starting. I usually plug it in for about an hour on days when it's below 45°. This is because two of the 5 glow plugs are dead, and one is only at 50% functionality. They've been that way since I bought it. I have purchased the new plugs to replace them, but never had the time to sit and do it.I've put new speakers in with the new stereo. They're little 4" speakers, though, since that's all that fits. It's a good stereo with USB and bluetooth, but those little 4" speakers don't provide the greatest sound. Better than wind, though!I'm still using the van for runs to the store once in awhile, so the mileage may go up a few hundred miles or so, but it certainly won't hit 269,000 before the sale ends. I'll be surprised if it hits 268,500. These engines are usually good for 400k+ before they need a rebuild. According to a couple of different places I've had it serviced, they usually don't do rebuilds before 500-600k, so they're a very long-lived engine. If only Mercedes had put as much thought and care into rustproofing the bodies they put the engines into! One thing to know that I wish I had known when I bought the van is about the headlights. When one goes out, the other will soon follow. When I say soon, I mean that it's usually within 50 miles or so. I'm told that's quite normal for these vans, and the high & low beams have separate bulbs, but it's still a bit annoying when you're on a long drive and they both go out. I usually keep 2 spares in the glove compartment because of that, but I just installed those a few weeks ago. This van has consistently gotten 20-21 mpg for me. Winter or summer, loaded or empty, doesn't really matter. When I pulled my 12' trailer behind, it would drop to around 16mpg. I was often hauling around 3000 lbs back there, but you never would have known it. I'm not real big on selling this van. It's been very good to me, and very reliable. But these days I just don't have a use for it, and I'm tired of insuring vehicles I'm not driving. I've thought it would make a nice little camping vehicle with the addition of a heat/air conditioning unit. And I know that it makes a fantastic vehicle for construction work. I kept those shelves loaded with tools & fasteners, and still had a ton of room left for materials. SO much nicer than using a truck & trailer!I'm willing to pick you up at the Minneapolis airport if you fly in to pick the van up. It's located about 70 miles from there, but that's the nearest airport to come into. Please feel free to ask questions. I'm here with the vehicle most of the duration of the sale, so I can check things out or take pictures if you have specific questions. I also have a video of me walking around it and driving it, if you'd like to hear it run. Just provide your e-mail address, and I can forward it to you. I believe we can do that without running afoul of eBay's rules.
