Vehicle Detail
Here is a great opportunity to purchase an iconic special production vehicle at a fantastic price with only some minor repairs needed. I was the second owner of this 2004 SSR, purchased at auction in 2006. I took great care of it, especially the engine and the capacity to be a “truck.” But recently, a few minor items came up and I don’t have the time or desire to deal with them. Moreover, earlier this year, while parked in front of my house on the road going into a cul-de- sac, a Charleston County recycle refuse truck driver decided a tree branch was going to hit his truck, so he swerved across the road and jacked up the right rear quarter panel on my SSR. I do not have the time to pursue it’s repairs. I purchased a light fixture, with the intent on fixing the sheet metal enough to put the light back in. I have pushed the sheet metal back out some, but my interest is just not there. I know, for a fact, that the right rear quarter panel is available from a collector-dealer in Tennessee. So it can be repaired. I will gladly share that information with you. There was zero damage underneath except for a brace for the quarter panel/bumper cover. It really is not too bad. The truck also has some extras that I added that make it unique and usable as a tow vehicle. I purchased the hard molded saddle bags for the cargo bay, and a cargo net. It has the cargo bay lining, with the faux wood slats. I also added a wind break for top down cruising, and I have a new set of floor mats. I added the extra gauge cluster (Trans temp, GPH and battery/alternator). I also recently added a G-Force programmed performance chip. The detachable hitch is included. On that topic, this truck can tow much more than the 2500 lbs published manufacturer rating. I have added after-market pusher-puller cooling fans, programmed to work with each other in sequence. Also, I added a transmission cooler pump. This equipment was specially designed and manufactured by an engineer in AZ for his own SSR. The stuff works! And that German engineered detachable hitch can do the work. I once loaded the cargo bay full of firewood, and loaded my camper full of equipment for a 2-week stay and towed it all 6 hours down the road. I also pulled the camper up in the mountains a time or two. It does need a few other minor repairs. The instrument panel needs replacement servo motors. This was a known OEM issue. There is loose wire in the cluster too because sometimes the instruments go out. Also, the cargo bay light wire harness hookup fixture needs replaced. This harness wire shorted and melted. About the same time, the battery began to have a slow discharge issue. I believe this short is the cause. I do have to keep the battery charged when left undriven. If you like to fine tune and/or add superchargers and the like, I always read that this small block 8 is engine to do it with. I changed oil regularly, and the engine is all good! It is really an open canvas of a collector vehicle that you can get cheaper than most, and do your own thing. Tonneau cover needs adjusting. The convertible roof actuators need adjusting. 2004 Approx. 89,000 miles
