1981 Jet Electrica (Mercury Lynx) This is not a conversion. It was factory built at Jet Industries in Austin, TX. Jet purchased these new from Ford without internal combustion components and built them as electric vehicles. The title states the type of fuel as electric. It has a lead battery drive system. Lead powered EV's are an excellent way to get into electric vehicle technology fairly economically. While most lead powered vehicles are slow and heavy, the EV technology is straightforward and very functional. This is a running and driving car in really good condition. I personally think it was kept in a garage for most of it's life. I keep it in my garage most of the time. I bought this car a little over a year ago complete with dead batteries. I parked it in my garage and saved up for some new batteries. While waiting, I removed the gas heater and ac systems. They were not working and missing parts. In September of this year, I installed 16 new drive batteries and a new 12 volt aux battery. I also replaced all of the battery interconnects since they were old and some of them were in bad condition. The new ones have 1/0 cable with copper terminal lugs. I'm selling it because I'm moving and there isn't room for it at my new place. A loss for me but a great deal for someone else. Only 12,980 miles Original 4 speed trans 20 HP Prestolite motor 96 Volts - 16 x 6 volt lead acid batteries - bought new in Sep '16 12 volt battery for non drive system components - bought new in Sep '16 1/0 battery interconnect cables with copper lugs - installed new in Oct '16 On board 220 volt charger, charges 12 volt and 96 volt systems 25' Charging cord - 10-30 nema plug and L6-30 nema socket on car Curtis 1221B controller - heat sink and fan ducting added Sep '16 All 12 volt electrics work 60+ miles of range (according to info I've found online) Interior is excellent Exterior has a couple flaws. Right front fender is discolored. Looks like someone repainted it and didn't do such a good job. A couple of dents in the back hatch. A couple of surface rust spots. The doors are not rusted through but as shown in the pics, they have surface rust. I maxed out the number of pics I can have in the ad so the driver side frame area couldn't be added. It looks exactly like the pic of the passenger side.
