Vehicle Detail
1996 Jaguar XJ-6.If you're looking at this auction, you know that these are some of the best Jaguars ever made. Extremely reliable, safe, stylish and comfortable, these are an absolute steal on the used car market. As you can tell by my lack of elaborate "eBay Motors" style auction, I am a private owner. I looked for a '94-'96 Jaguar XJ-6 for quite a while before I found this one. I purchased it in 2014 with approximately 39,000 miles. It was bought new in 1996 by an elderly couple that was retiring and moving to Southern California. I bought it from the original owners husband after she passed away. According to him, it had never gone over 65mph, was never driven in the rain or snow and had only been out of California when it was purchased in MO on their way out to Cali. When I took ownership it was on it's original tires. I quickly swapped them out for a set of top-of-the-line Pirelli tires or "tyres" since it's British :) in the original size. Then I immediately took it to Richard at RMB Jaguar in North Hollywood, CA. RMB is considered one of the best independent Jaguar shops in the country. While there I had Richard do the following: Flush and fill the cooling systemOil and filter change to Royal Purple syntheticInstall new fuel filterTransmission fluid changeRear differential fluid changeBrake system flush, filled and bledPower steering fluid changeNew air filter I drove the car for about 8,000 miles with zero problems at all. Then I noticed a slight hesitation under throttle. After checking the Jaguar forums online, I found what is basically the only known "weakness" on the '94-'97 XJ-6's(Besides the terrible cupholders!). The coil-on-plug spark plug wires tend to go bad and the replacements from Jaguar are still of the subpar quality and cost over $800 for a set(!). One member of the forum had a source for Japanese-made coils for a more reasonable(but still pricey $500) for the set. These upgraded coils have none of the reliability issues of Lucas-made OEM coils. I installed them along with some new plugs and the legendary straight-6 has been purring like a kitten(pun intended) ever since! Last month I took the car to RMB to give it an oil change and inspection before the sale. While there I decided to do a brake job. Also, Richard noticed a pin hole leak in one of the A/C lines. I replaced the hose and had the entire A/C system serviced. It is ICE COLD. BRAND NEW pads all aroundTires rotatedNew BatteryFull Air conditioning serviceJust passed CA SMOG with no problemsFree and Clear CA title This car is in wonderful condition. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across country. I might be able to deliver the car if you are within 500 miles of Los Angeles if all expenses were taken care of. Flaws: Cupholder plastic is broken. Body and paint is in excellent condition. Might be a couple door dings but nothing major. Please email me with any questions, comments or offers. Thanks!
