Vehicle Detail

I’ve owned this 1995 968 for the past 12 years. I am the third owner (previous owners were in Texas and South Carolina). It runs strong and is in pretty good shape, with two major exceptions: (1) The top motors do not work, so you have to put the top up by hand. (Actually, you can do this faster than the motors would raise and lower it.) (2) The clutch seems to be slipping. Other than those two major issues, the car runs fine and everything else works. Air conditioner puts out cold air. I do love this car, but having pretty near zero mechanical skills, I am not able to fuss with the things listed above, so I elected to buy a another 968, a 1993, with only 24,000 miles --- (which, unhappily, did run me some serious $$$). All recommended maintenance has been performed at approximately the intervals listed in the Porsche maintenance booklet and oil has been changed regularly at 3,000 mile intervals. I have all of the service records from day one when the car was first sold. Major items of service/maintenance: 39,424 Miles: Clutch Replaced 51,359 Miles: Radiator and thermostat replaced 58,027 Miles: Convertible top right rear B-Pillar repaired 70,433 Miles: Timing belt, water pump and thermostat replaced 75,928 Miles: Drive belts replaced 78,300 Miles: Front bumper damage repaired 78,352 Miles: Left rear wheel bearing replaced 79,500 Miles: Driver’s door damage repaired 81,257 Miles: Spark plugs replaced 91,970 Miles: Drive belts replaced 93,448 Miles: Fuel pump replaced 93,177 Miles: Soft convertible top replaced 95,350 Miles: Starter and clutch slave cylinder replaced 97,986 Miles: Front and rear brakes replaced Miscellaneous: A new top was installed in 2009, when a small sharp pointed branch punctured it, so, as you can see in the photos, the back window is pretty clear. Car has both a cassette player and a six disk CD changer unit. Radio, of course, is am/fm. New battery installed last year. I am a non-smoker and, apparently, so were the previous owners as there is no smoke odor. Other Issues: To the best of my knowledge, these are the only other issues with the car: The support strut on the driver’s side does not quite extend fully, so when raising the top it is necessary to lock the top fastening lever on the driver’s side first and then give the passenger side a good tap above the lever before locking the top fastener on the passenger side. Although there are some minor scratches and chips in the exterior paint and some areas on the bumpers have been touched up, overall the paint is still mostly glossy. Most of the scratches and chips should be able to be buffed out and/or touched up as there are no dents. There are two spots on the trunk lid where the paint is faded. Look at the photos to see those two spots, the various minor dings/chips and the general paint condition. The interior is pretty clean, but one of the seams in the driver’s seat has separated and there is a patch (which blends in pretty well) on the outboard side of the driver’s seat. Again, see the photos. I have not cleaned the motor compartment so it does not sparkle in the photo. My mechanic advises there is a loose baffle in the exhaust system, which sometimes makes a vibration noise when accelerating through 15-20 mph. (He recommended against spending any money to remedy this, advising that it will not cause any problem if left alone.) Rubber window liners on both sides have been repaired and the surface of the inside window sills have a crackled appearance – see photos. Side curtains have been repaired and repainted. Shifter knob has been repaired – see photo. Boot cover for top has small hole in it – see photo. I have the original floor mats – driver’s side is fairly worn. Will be needing front tires pretty soon. The wind diverter shield under the left front fender needs the brace bracket screwed back in place. The car is available for inspection here in central Connecticut. I will respond promptly to anyone who has questions. (email: jbroder@brightlinemedia.com; phone: (860) 608-0610.) As with most vehicles on Ebay, the car is sold as is, where is. As I am not a dealer, there will NOT be the usual dealer “Document pack” of around $300. This is a LOW RESERVE auction, so I expect the car WILL be sold to whoever is the high bidder.
