UPDATE: The bike 'sold' last week on eBay, but the winning bidder didn't pull through. After the buyer backed out I decided I'd give the bike an oil change before posting it on eBay again. Unfortunately, I accidentally torqued the oil drain plug bolt too tight (the one right underneath the shifter), and broke the bolt in two. Not only did the bolt brake but I believe I ripped off some of the casing that the bolt goes into as well. Thus, I can't remove the drain bolt now since it's corked into the engine casing, although I did manage to get new Honda race oil in the bike. I believe the fix would either be to easy-out the drain plug screw and replace the drain plug screw, or replace the left-side crankcase (<$100 part on eBay). I'll post some pictures in hopes you can see what I did. In any case, I've lowered the Buy It Now Price by $1000. The repair, including parts should be $110 at most if you do it yourself. A mechanic may charge you around $450-550 due to insane labor costs. Maybe they'll charge much less, but you may know better. There is a light leak now from the drain plug bolt since the bolt is only partly way inside the motorcycle. But it rides just like normal if you plan on riding it back home. Just make sure you top the oil off if your ride home is hundreds of miles away. Besides the drainplug bolt getting messed up, the bike runs like a dream. So here's the deal. My XR400 is up for sale. I'm beginning law school in Los Angeles in a few months, and the idea of dealing with anything outside of school bothers me. Hence, I'm selling the XR (plus, I'd rather avoid anything even slightly dangerous for the next few years before I graduate). So here's the story of the bike. The first owner owned the bike up until 2003 or 2004. The second owner owned it up to 2015 before releasing it to me in October of that year. The first owner did the Baja Kit conversion and made the bike street legal, though I'm not sure if he used the bike for commuting, off-roading, etc. The second owner who I bought the bike from explicitly told me he used the bike solely for off roading, no commuting. He was a much bigger motorcycle enthusiast than I'll ever be and I think this was 1 of 4 motorcycles in his garage. In any case, I've put approximately 400 miles on it since I purchased it (it's a dirt bike, so from the factory the odometer rolls every 100 miles). I'm sure this is at least a small worry that the odometer resets, but I can assure you that the bike is in good running condition, as it's maintenance has been well kept up with. This XR has not been abused which is visible. Plus, none of the owners of this bike seem to have used it as a daily rider. And it's not the prettiest of bikes, but it sure ain't ugly either. If you want an approximation of the mileage, I would guess it's somewhere under 20,000 but over 10,000. I've never had an issue with it besides clogged up jets when I bought it, which I paid $395 to repair last month (I'll include all receipts which included other small maintenance costs besides carb work - basically a full tuneup was done). In 2011 the bike had $1,450 in repairs, with the largest repair being the top end. The 2nd owner who did paid for the most expensive repairs told me the top end probably didn't need to be rebuilt, but he did it anyways since it had never been done on the bike. Again, I'll provide all receipts. I'm also including 6 pints of Honda Race Oil, 4 oil filters, 2 tubes, and a good bunch of miscellaneous parts. Oh, and I have a pair of dual sport tires I'm including that probably had 70-80% life left. I'm also willing to ride the bike to your place of storage if you're within 20 miles from Culver City. But just contact me if you have anything else in mind. This is the best price you'll find for an XR400 in California with street legal plates and such a solid intact maintenance history, with as many parts that I'm including. If your offer is reasonable I'll accommodate it.
