The 2004–2005 models came with a 6-speed manual transmission, or an available 5-speed automatic.Other aspects which set the R apart from standard S60s were the large Brembo front and rear four-piston brakes, 18-inch wheels, blue faced "R" gauges, standard HID headlights , as well as the Four-C suspension system.Semi-active suspension with Four-C (a short name for "Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept") allows the user to select from three modes: Comfort, Sport, and Advanced. "Comfort" attempts to soften the car over bumps, while "Advanced" firms the suspension considerably and gives more aggressive throttle response - a setting Volvo implies is for use on the race track. This is accomplished through a drive by wire throttle, allowing the same pedal travel to result in different performance when the appropriate mode is selected, electronically controlled shock absorbers that can adjust themselves 500 times a second, and a complex series of sensors throughout the body of the vehicle. Volvo collaborated with high-tech system developer Ohlins Racing AB and shock absorber manufacturer Monroe for the self-adjusting shock absorbers.The Rs had three interior color options: Nordkap (metallic dark blue), Gobi (light tan metallic) and a R-only leather option; Atacama, available for an additional charge. It was an unpainted, orangey-coloured natural leather with a baseball glove thickness and feel.The small trunk lid spoiler that was standard on the S60 R created a 20% increased downforce at the rear wheels at high speeds compared to the standard S60s. The S60 Rs have a 0.29 Drag coefficient, compared to the standard S60's 0.28, due to the larger lower front bumper spoiler to support the secondary intercooler.The S60 R continued the tradition of "R" cars for Volvo beginning in 1995 with the introduction of the 850 T-5 R. This is a rare and beautiful 2005 Volvo S60 "R" with the 2.5L Turbocharged 5-Cylinder Engine mated to the 5-Speed Automatic Transmission. This car is All Wheel Drive and loaded with options. Everything works perfect on this car and I just had it thoroughly inspected and serviced at a local independent European car specialist shop. This car needs nothing and is ready to drive anywhere. There are extensive service records on the Carfax Report. This is a wonderful car to drive. No rattles or vibrations. Everything on it works perfectly. Drives very tight - exactly as you'd expect with only 88k original miles. I've put over 300 miles on this car myself and it has performed flawlessly. Just passed the Texas Emissions and Safety Inspection. As for the condition of the car, the interior is extremely clean and looks excellent. The seats and all upholstery are in excellent condition. Very slight wear on the driver's seat from normal use, but that's the only minor imperfection inside. No crack, tears, or stains anywhere. Never smoked in. Everything works perfect. All original books, manuals, and factory tool kit are included. I would say the interior is in exceptional condition overall. The exterior is also in excellent condition. No rust or corrosion anywhere on it. This car looks amazing. No dents or scratches. The Carfax Report is perfectly clean and all paint appears to be original, and the paint looks great. No evidence of any previous accidents. These cars have aluminum body panels which hold up very well. As you can see, this car shows extremely well. If you get it in just the right lighting and look at the right angle, there are a few very tiny hail dings on the hood and a couple on the roof, but I don't think you would have ever found them if I hadn't told you they were there. That's really the only minor imperfection I can find on the exterior. I would rate the exterior as well above average. This car is ready to be driven anywhere you want to take it.
