Vehicle Detail

Rare early low serial number 1958 Ariel Leader. The Leader design was decades ahead of its time and features many fascinating innovations as well as a superb driving experience. I have a road worthy example and they really are a joy with the most common sticking point being anemic brakes but I don't ride the old timers that hard. Suspension is comfortable, center of effort is low, two-stroke twin power is adequate and storage is copious. Its forward thinking and radical design for the time was well received in Europe but failed to sell in large numbers in the important USA market and some credit those poor sales for putting Ariel out of business. Today, a large percentage of motorcycles are fully faired but in the 60's riders wanted to see their bike's power-plant. The full fairing keeps you dry and barely ruffles your hair! The bike is mostly complete with a wonderful warm patina that would make a fabulous preservation class bike that would tell a wonderful and unique story. Of course it would also be a good candidate for full restoration. The serial number (built number) on this example is very low and there is no trace of any current rust, past rust or accident repair. The odometer reads 3,123 but I cannot verify actual milage, though the tires do seem to be of the era and have good tread. All bodywork panels are present but I have not stripped the bike down further to see what would make it run and drive. A spare block (w/o head) is included in the sale. There are also several other parts inside the panniers but the plexi screen is missing (these are available). The Leader is available "as is" and "where is" in Fairfield County Connecticut and I can help load her up here on my end. As per Connecticut law, this bike is sold with a CT bill of sale. Please reach out if you would like to take over the custodial care and preservation of this great motorcycle. It would be wonderful to see it on the road again. THANKS & GOOD LUCK!
