VIDEO: AUCTION ENDED BY ACCIDENT>>>RELSITING REAL 1970 Matching Numbers SS396 Chevelle El Camino SUPER SPORT *********26 OPTIONS AND PERFORMANCE BUILT 396/402********* For over 20 years I have collected and restored Corvettes and Big Block Super Sports as a hobby. Once in while I sell one when it's turnkey finished. My painter cannot get to this car until next year, so I have decided to sell it without the exterior paint work done..... for a much lower price. There is very little left to do to bring this Genuine SS396 Elky to a finish that will make someone an outstanding appreciating muscle car, for little money. I have verified the Engine Suffix on the engine pad as CTW and Partial VIN stamp ending in 482 which is faint but readable, although it has paint over it making it impossible to photograph.and behind the alternator so not easy to access. There are so many things Right about this SS396 El Camino. 1970 is the most coveted year, it retains the original "born with" motor with final VIN digits on the block and transmission, it has 26 options including 396/350HP Super Sport Package with SS wheels, PS, PB, Strato Bucket Seats w/headrests, Factory AC, Floor Console, all Tinted glass, Tilt steering wheel, Deluxe seat belts with Shoulder harnesses, F41 suspension, Positraction, a completely new interior, lots of new chrome and stainless trim parts and all mechanically sorted with a serious, performance built engine by DG Machine, racing engine builders. Prior owner provided over $10,000 in receipts for numerous mechanical upgrades to make this a very well sorted, dependable and very powerful El Camino. I also have DG's Machine's Balance Spec sheet, Internal Build spec sheet and Comp Cam spec sheet. (See engine parts list) This is an awesome sounding beast and you really can hear the difference with a racing built engine that's fully balanced!. From receipts, only about 6k miles since rebuild. His money was well spent as this is clearly the best driving classic I have ever driven. I have owned dozens of vintage classics and a lot of them leak, rattle and creak! Not this one. Also, runs cool and doesn't detonate using premium unleaded. Starts immediately, chokes & idles correctly, accelerates flawlessly, shifts properly, steers effortlessly, drives straight and brakes great with power disc brakes. No noises except for that serious muscle car exhaust, and No leaks...... Pretty remarkable I think. I have seven cars but I still bought this Elky from an elderly owner in Arizona because it is so darn hard to find a solid 1970 matching numbers Super Sport that is affordable with great potential and that is not a full blown project or with a rusted up undercarriage or missing interior. (Right?) With a matching numbers 1970 SS396 El Camino, you will never have to wonder if you bought a SS clone or a reproduced build sheet. Metal Work-Done I had my metal man cut out any rust or bubbling paint such as door corners and bottom of rear quarter and under wheel trim and replace it with steel. He is one of the best metal men in the country, everyone agrees. We also finished the interior. I bought a fitted bed mat to protect the bed which is very solid and straight and NOT painted over with thick Linex or some other Cover Up bed spray. The. prior owner had most of the bed's peeling paint sanded down and repainted to match the rest of the car. ($1600.) What's left? This is a really easy car to finish and enjoy while it appreciates or make some good money on it. It needs filler and block sanding on those metal repairs and prep for paint. The only important mechanical work left is adding a compressor and compressor hose, it appears everything else for AC including brackets, condenser and evaporator, hard lines, heater box and under dash box, is all there.( I restored a 68 Elky that had a lot of missing AC parts and it was very costly and many parts were difficult to source.)
