1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS--last year for the G body rear wheel drive Montes. Fresh meticulous North American restoration using the original sheet metal--results are better than factory. All convenience options including T-Tops. Starting with a low mileage rust free Monte, the following components were removed: doors and all internals, fenders and bumpers, all glass, all trim and weatherstripping. All were stripped to bare metal. Chassis was sandblasted as well as door bottoms. No sheet metal was replaced or repaired. There are no 'patches' or rust repair on the body anywhere. All factory panel deformation was corrected. As a result, the body lines on the car are perfectly straight. Gaps between panels are perfect. Significantly better than factory original. Glasruit primer and multiple coats of premium urethane paint were used to finish the exterior. Paint and primer material cost alone was over $3,000. Before polishing, the body was steel block sanded with 800, 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit. The end result is extraordinary and cannot adequately by reflected in pictures. All original style body stripping replaced. All suspension, brakes and front end components are new. Drivetrain is rebuilt. All engine seals were replaced. No leaks. With the exception of the air pump, motor and transmission are factory stock . Interior was stripped completely. New interior upholstery. The dash does have 3 cracks that will require repair at some point. All weatherstripping is new including all the seals for the T-Tops. No leaks in the T-Tops. Anyone who knows these cars knows well the corrosion problems associated with the T-Tops. Note picture of car with T-Tops removed--zero rust. Other new components include Stainless steel dual exhaust, new BF Goodrich performance tires. The performance of this Monte SS is brisk as it is factory equipped with the 5L HO engine, factory hi-stall torque converter in the transmission and factory 3.73 gears. It goes down the road straight. There are no shakes or rattles or wind noise. Doors close with a positive thump. All convenience options including the AC are functional. Car is equipped with an aftermarket CD player (original radio is included). No expense or effort spared in this recreation. Starting with an excellent unmolested rust free example of a Monte Carlo and the attention to detail during reconstruction, this is a restoration made to last. I am an insurance company approved vintage/classic car appraiser and I am listing this vehicle for a client. It is presently appraised at much more than the listing price. This Monte Carlos is presently registered in Ontario Canada (10 miles from Niagara Falls NY). For US buyers, due to the age of the vehicle, it is exempt from the normal importation requirements. US Customs have confirmed that there are no fees associated with the importation and that importation consists of some paperwork done at the border, normally in 15 minutes .
