Vehicle Detail
This is being relisted due to it being incorrectly listed as salvage title I am reluctantly selling my 1973 142 with 5 speed OD transmission. Please consider this a mechanics special, a vintage car with many quirks. I have owned this vehicle about 12 years. However I moved out of state 7 years ago and the car has been loaned out, then in storage, since then. I now work outside of the United States and can no longer store this vehicle. This is a unique 142, in that it has many period parts from volvo's R-sports catalog on it. The car was originally purchased by a US Air Force officer stationed in Norway, and he put many of the R-sport parts on the car. This is not a 142GT model. These parts include: R-sport shocks front and rear (rear were replaced by me with original r-sport shocks)Thicker sway bars and springs (not ipd)Widened 15" rims. Dual exhaustGauge cluster GT seats and interior with orange stripe The motor is a low mileage 1974 or 75 bottom end with a 73 head with recent five angle valve job. It was installed 6 years ago. Timing cover has the ipd neoprene seal mod. The injectors were tested by rc engineering and flow patters was adjusted (about 9 years ago). Brakes have ebc greenstuff pads, stainless braided lines. Ball joints and front a arm bushings were replaced, and I can not recall if it was with stock or urethane bushings. The car was repainted with ppg paint about 10 years ago. Paint has scratches and some problems now, but looks great from a distance. The car has strong power (for a b20 in a 140), handles great, and really wants to be driven. Now to the problems: The car has 4-5 years of back fees due to the CA DMV. Obviously an out of state purchaser would not have to deal with this. I just checked with the DMV and it looks like their current calculation is about $550 worth of back fees are due (in addition to regular transfer fees). Sometimes a new owner can negociate this with the DMV if they have a letter/roof the vehicle was never used or stored on CA roadways. I could help with this... but no promises, and the resulting fees would be the responsibility of the new owner. I would assume that the odometer has rolled over once, so the true miles would probably be closer to 150k, not 50k. Body problems: The paint is ok, but has been scratched, even when under a car cover. Some small dents as well. I have tried to show this in pics. The front bumper is crooked. The chrome is has some light dents and scratches. The inside of the hood is red, not orange, indicating the hood was hit and replaced at one point. The sun roof leaks and has been covered with clear tape. The drivers side spare tire well was rusted out and a portion was cut away and patched with fiberglass.; the passenger side tire well has dents to the bottom of it. The tow hitch is not attached correctly for towing and has no wires (I used it for a bike rack). One mud flap is missing, the other is loose. The GT badge is not correct for this car. There should be a 142 badge, which I have somewhere. Engine problems: At times the idle goes very high. The battery tray is rusted. The TPS wiring plug is broken and has been soldered back together. The MAP sensor has not been tampered with (which is somewhat rare on these cars) Interior problems: the gauges do not seem to working well after storage. The volt gauge is not working, and the BAT warning light is on (alternator is charging at 13.8v however). The temp gauge is not registering. (I get nervous driving a car without a working temp gauge). The defrost selector does not turn on the correct vents (fan motor was replaced and works, however). The fuel gauge is intermittent. The sun roof latch flaps around, the door panels do not fit well, the window crank falls off, the drivers vent window is loose in the open position. The map pocket is loose on the drivers side. The plastic steering column surround is cracked. The seat backs rattle. Tires are old and have slow leaks (but ok tread).
