Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This is an original fully electric Ford Ranger truck. It is not a conversion. Ford build about 1500 of these between 1998 and 2001. This truck has the rarer and longer-life Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) batteries rather than lead-acid batteries. The truck’s batteries are showing their age with recent full-to-near empty driving range being between 20 and 30 miles. This decline in range can be reversed with various alternatives available. Replacement of the NiMH batteries, and/or reconditioning of the truck’s existing ones, is offered by BatteryMD (http://www.batterymd.com/). Some Ranger EV owners have converted their truck’s battery pack to Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries or installed batteries removed from Chevy Volts (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271972186478?forcerRptr=true&item=271972186478&viewitem=). I believe these latter type conversions may require replacement of the battery management system (BMS) or installation of a supplemental one. The truck recently stopped accepting a charge. I suspect there is a problem with the on-board charger, but I do not have the knowledge or skill level to do a definitive diagnosis or to attempt to work on and/or replace that item. Overall, the truck’s body is clean and in good shape. The rear bumper is dented in some on one side (see picture) and the driver side front panel has a minor indentation. The truck could use replacement tires. The interior is in good shape. The heater has what is called a blend door that has failed (common on Ford Rangers). I have lived with the outward impact (an irregular click-like noise while driving) for a couple years now. The bed of the truck has a tonneau cover over it to help with aerodynamics. It has a minor tear and visually shows its age. The truck is being sold as-is. While I hope the buyer will fix it up and keep it on the road for several years, the starting price is low enough that someone with the right equipment should be able to make money by scrapping out the NiMH batteries and other key components. The truck is offered with the following extras: - An Avcon PowerPak retrofitted with a heavy duty 14-50Amp range cord for convenient 220V charging either at home or at locations with 14-50 outlets - An J1772-to-Avcon charging adapter that allows the truck to be charged using the ever-growing J1772 network of chargers - A full sized spare wheel with a used tire on it - If you live in California: o White EV carpool stickers that allow the truck to be driven in carpool lanes o Recently paid registration
