Vehicle Detail
1974 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser with Meyer E47 6 1/2' snow plow. Two owner vehicle - I purchased from the original owner on December 5, 2001. The original owner bought this vehicle when he was attending college at the University of Idaho. He and his family were in the automotive bumper repair business and this Toyota was stored on an upper floor of their warehouse in downtown Chicago. There was about 1/4" of dust on the truck when I first viewed it and it was a non-runner. I took a leap of faith and bought the truck because I have a long driveway at home and a snow blower wasn't cutting it. It required about $1,000 of refurbishing to get it running and make the plow functional. The mileage when I bought it was 59,853 - today it shows 60,024 (I'm not sure the odometer is accurate but plowing involves some miles in reverse so it could be accurate). I seldom took the Toyota off my property - usually just to fill the gas tank or occasionally I plow a few friends driveways in the neighborhood. The original color is Cygnus White but it was covered in gray primer when I purchased it and it still wears that finish (quite a bit of the primer had worn away so I steelwooled the surface rust and recovered the bare metal in primer today – October30, 2015). This Toyota runs and drives but the tires (Goodyear Tracker XG H78-15LT) are old, obsolete and unsafe. The E47 6 ½’ Meyer snow plow quit working during the 2012/2013 winter season and is in need of attention. I purchased a set of NOS snow plow lights several years ago and installed them myself. The vehicle has a 6-cylinder 237cid inline 6 cylinder engine, 4-speed standard shift transmission, roll bar, power brakes, an under-seat heater, two rear folding seats, the original rubber floor mat, a trailer hitch and chrome accents (it is a factory radio-delete truck). The roof, of course, is removable but I have never taken it off. The swing away spare tire carrier was about to fall off in 2014 due to rusty hinges so I removed the tire and carrier but the parts are present and included in the sale - as is the original window sticker. Since I bought the FJ back in 2001, minimal maintenance work has been performed. A complete tune-up was performed when I took delivery of the FJ which included points, rotor, condenser, cap, wires, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, thermostat, hoses and a new radiator. In 2003, the battery hold-down tray and I believe a new master cylinder were replaced. I replaced the cowl vent tubes in 2004 and have replaced the battery over the years as needed (a trickle charger, which can be seen in the photo, was installed many years ago and is always plugged in) and oil changes every couple of years. I am not aware of any frame issues. Buyer pays shipping - sold as-is and where is. Clear Illinois title. Questions? Call or text 847-652-4738. On Oct-30-15 at 19:51:46 PDT, seller added the following information: This Land Cruiser starts, runs, stops, steers, drives and shifts in all four gears plus reverse but there is now a leak at the bottom of the gas tank.
