Vehicle Detail

1966 Pontiac Catalina Convertible I purchased this sweet old Cat droptop from a guy in his 80's that had it sitting in his barn in upstate Wisconsin since 1980. He said he drove it in the barn back then, and the mileage is correct at just over 95K. I don't know much about these old Catalina's, but this one happened to come from the village where I grew up. I thought is was very ironic to see the Peter Epsteen Pontiac decal on the trunk proving it had the original paint. That was a dealership in Skokie Illinois, so this car was actually around my town on the showroom floor in 1966. I always wanted one since my younger brother was born in that year. I just don't have the time for the restoration. This car will need a new convertible top, but the frame looks complete and in tact. The interior looks in decent shape as shown in the pictures. The older gentleman said that he did start it up every year for the first 10 or 15 years that it was in his barn, but he misplaced the keys a decade or two ago. I don't know much about these cars, so I don't know if the engine is a 389 or a 421. He said it is a 389, and it is the original numbers matching engine. When I first got it I bought and installed new spark plugs and spark plug wires with a new distributor cap and rotor. I left the points in the glove box. Since I didn't get the keys with the sale I did buy the correct new ignition switch. That is also in the glove box. Installing the ignition switch and getting this old Cat running again will be left up to the winning bidder. I didn't see any evidence of this car ever being in any bad accidents other than the damage on the right rear. I do believe this car can be brought back to life or used for the awesome valuable classic parts. All the stainless steel trim looks in good condition. I didn't see any dents on them, but the right rear quarter molding is long gone. I never got into the trunk, so a new lock will be needed for the trunk. The lock cylinder was taken out of the glove box by the old guy and is in a plastic bag in the glove compartment. He thought he could get a key cut from that cylinder for the ignition. He never had one made. This car is being sold as needing a complete restoration where every part will need attention to make it a nice car again. I did put a nice set of four Michelin Road Handler Plus white wall steel belted radial tires on this classic Pontiac, because the original tires were dry rotted. This body has mostly all of its original paint except for where some white primer was sprayed over several areas to protect the body from rust. This Pontiac still has the full set of four hard to find PMD spinner hubcaps. This Cat is being sold with an open, clean, and clear Illinois title dated October 19th 1979. It was nice to see an old classic title again from when I was a teenager. I have a picture of the title in the picture display. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1966 Pontiac Catalina Convertible valued at $33,900 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $19,700 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! They have the lowest condition value at $10,700 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. The numbers don't lie! This Convertible can once again be a very valuable automobile! These Catalina convertible's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. What you see is exactly what you get! I tried to describe all of the pertinent information, so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. I am a brutally honest person, so if there is anything else you feel I may have missed, please ask me any question you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This cool full size classic convertible is being offered at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction ending Sunday evening at 8:00pm Eastern time, 7:00pm Central time, and 5:00pm Pacific time. Please do not bid unless you definitely have all of your funds in order prior to placing your bids. The PayPal deposit needs to be paid within 24 hours, and the balance within 72 hours. This is a prime opportunity to pick up a bargain and possibly be at the local car shows by next summer. Thank You for taking the time to view my auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!! On Oct-03-15 at 09:21:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I took a look at the undercarriage for an interested party, and I was very surprised to see how solid it is under there. These are the original floors that were never patched or repaired. The floors, frame, and even the trunk floor all looked in good condition. This Cat was always stored inside until I made the purchase earlier in the year.
