Vehicle Detail
Time capsule!!!!!!!!! This vehicle was with the original owner until ~2012. From what I understand it was a "little old lady", and considering the condition, I believe that to be true. I have personally never seen a vehicle this age in as good condition at it is in, and I've encountered a LOT of vehicles. It's from Grand Junction Colorado.... which some of that area is mountainous, but it obviously never encountered any road salt. That is the more west side, close to California. This is the 5th 1st generation 4Runner that I have owned. I bought it in February of 2014 with intentions of keeping it forever. I've since found that I need more of a usable vehicle than a museum piece! There's nothing to stop this 4Runner from lasting a few hundred virtually trouble free miles, but since I feel that it is too nice to drive in the rain, much less snow/etc, it is sort of just filling up a garage space at my house. I stumbled upon a Yukon XL 2500, and that's more suited for towing/hauling a lot of stuff and people, so my museum piece is up for sale. Clean NC title, and I'm the third owner. No accidents show on the history report. I have a copy, and I can e-mail if anyone would like to see it. I put the soft top on it in the spring of 2014. I do still have the hard top, it has been in covered storage since. It is not hard to re-install, and I will re-install it when it sells, unless someone local buys it, and doesn't want me to(of course, the soft top will go with it also, it was about $850 new, and is still like new). The soft top is surprisingly quiet, and it doesn't leak a drop. I've removed/re-installed hard tops on these vehicles, and they go back on perfectly, no leaking, etc (there is a specific torque sequence in the repair manual) The hard top is red, I will include one picture with the top on. The rear window works exactly as it should, from the switch or the key on the tailgate. Things I have done, or had a professional do: - New AC compressor, condenser, expansion valve. I don't remember the exact brand of the compressor, but I made absolutely sure it was an exact OEM brand, and new, not rebuilt. IT was $335 for that part only, and I had to work hard to find that price. - New front OEM type shocks - New fuel filter - Valve lash adjustment - LC Engineering wires and routing plate - OEM plugs - OEM distributor cap and rotor - Changed differential and transfer case fluids - New radiator (original developed a leak, I did keep it since it was copper and the replacement was aluminum and plastic) - New radiator hoses - New dual stage thermostat (wasn't overheating, but I know these engines well enough to know that it's a good idea to have one) - New throttle position sensor - New wipers - Added an aftermarket tachometer, it is on the left side of the column. That may seem like a lot of stuff, but I took a vehicle that hadn't been driven much, and I started driving it a decent amount. I'm also very "particular" when it comes to vehicle maintenance, if there was anything borderline questionable or that I thought it may need one day, I went ahead and took care of it. It runs, drives, performs EXACTLY like it should/did when it was new. It has been to Florida once or twice, and to my old office a bunch of times, which was 120 miles from my house. It runs quietly, and does not have any timing chain noises/etc. NO leaks! There's remnants of gunk on the bottom/back of the engine, but it appears to be some transmission fluid residue, not oil. The transmission was serviced not long before I bought it, and from looking at the fluid, that appears to be true. The gasket does appear to be new. Long story on the tires... I had a set of stock sized Michelins on it, then I put a set of 30x9.5x15 BFG AT's on it, then I decided to sell it. I have an older Jeep Cherokee that was suitable for the BFG's, so I swapped the 1/2 worn tires from the Cherokee onto the 4Runner. They're OK, but they are a little cupped out from being on the worn Jeep. There are pictures from different times when I owned it, the "Hifly" is what is on it now. Brakes are OK. The front pads are a little thin, but OK for a while. Rear shoes are over 1/2. Condition... original paint on the entire vehicle except for the driver's side. I don't know what kind of bump up it was in, but the driver's side fender has a different VIN on it, and there is very slight (magnet) signs of some body work toward the back of the driver's side. It was a professional repair, and it took me a while to figure out what had been done. I have a very good eye, and I'm in an automotive related business. I haven't waxed any part of the vehicle in over a year, I didn't want to "doctor it up" right before I sold it. The paint is amazing for its age! There is a spot on the passenger side door where a reflector had been pulled off, and took some of the paint with it. There are also a couple of scratches that are strangely also on that door, I guess just bad luck for that area. I thought about having that door touched up/blended in, but I didn't want to throw up too many "flags" for non originality. There is no Armor ALL or dressing on the molding or anywhere on the vehicle in the pictures. I cleaned the engine right after I bought it, and I have not cleaned it again since. There are cob webs under there, even though I've put over 12,000 miles on it, it still sometimes goes a week or two without being touched. The underneath was semi-thoroughly cleaned when I got it, and no real effort since. The interior is immaculate. The dash /guages/steering wheel/buttons/etc are in absolutely amazing condition, and look like it has 5,000 miles instead of 104,000. All interior lights illuminate as they should. The passenger seat had a separated seam, and I had a professional remove it, and add another seam to cover up the flaw. In the process, the surface/velour stretched a little. He steamed it, that is why it looks a little funky in the picture. It has become a little softer since then(was stiff and weird feeling right after he steamed it) and should be fine for years. The rear cargo area and tailgate look like they have never been touched. Negatives: - I mentioned the place on the passenger door. - The rear bumper cap on the driver's side is a little loose, I haven't tried to figure out why. - Passenger seat bottom is a little sketchy, as mentioned already. - Small wear spot in the carpet by the accelerator pedal. - Has a couple rock chips in the windshield, but not bad, and they haven't spread since I've had it. - There is a small scuff on the plastic trim in front of the driver's side tire. I guess that's from the accident. - The front grill is a touch loose, a couple of the clips that hold it on are broken on the bottom. - One of the headlights holds a little water, but I have not replaced, since I had planned to replace both with some kind of brighter aftermarket, and I could never figure out which brand. - The two screws on the left of the tailgate held on an emblem from the dealership that originally sold. It I think I have the emblem somewhere. I just removed it, and put the screws back in with sealant so the holes wouldn't rust. Notes: I removed the front skid plate, and the access panel where the AC compressor and oil filter are... since they're kind of useless and in the way. I will re-install upon sale, or will just include with the vehicle. I have the original cigarette lighter, and it is pristine.... never touched a cigarette. I've had cheap rubber floor mats in the front, rear seat, and cargo area. I will include, they are not in the pictures. I installed a hitch receiver to pull a light trailer to make Lowe's trips, etc. It just bolts on to the bottom of the bumper, no holes were drilled. I have the plastic panel that goes on top of the center of the bumper, I had to remove it for the hitch receiver. It has the original AM/FM Stereo with cassette, dig out your Bon Jovi cassettes. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this vehicle anywhere! It's probably a little pricey compared to the other ones out there.... but these are up and coming classics, and this is one of the finest examples out there. I won't make "excuses" for price though... there are a LOT less fun/less dependable/more expensive vehicles to work on, that are being sold for a lot more money! I will help with shipping/pick up, and I'm about 40 miles from the Charlotte NC airport. Check is fine, but I MUST be able to verify funds before I give up possession. Thanks! On Sep-24-15 at 13:01:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I changed the buy it now to $12,200 as of 9/24/2015. My neighbor is 90% sure he is buying it (for just a smidge less)... if you want it, better hit the "buy it now" button quickly!!!!!!!
