Vehicle Detail
Please read all of this description so you know what you are getting. It is detailed and contains everything I remember about the car. Up for sale is a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk with 172,xxx miles. It is #151 built that year and has been verified by SLP (the company that made the Firehawks). It is quite rare, being an Arctic White automatic transmission car with the following SLP options. The original SLP sticker on the door shows them. It is quite possible this car is unique (1 of 1) -Auburn rear differential -Castrol Syntec lubrication package - Firehawk floormats - Chrome Firehawk wheels - Sport suspension package The following is a summary of all the major areas of the car and any known issues: Exterior: -This car needs exterior paint work on the front and rear bumper as well as the hood. The paint is cracking and loosing clear coat in those areas. -The paint on the rest of the car is nice, even the sail panel, which usually gets bubbles due to a factory defect with F-bodies in this timeframe. -I do not see too many dings/dents in this car, with the only noticeable one being on the driver side near the tail light. It's not that easy to find being that the car is white. -The T-Tops are nice and I haven't seen any leaks even when driving in the rain. -The wheels are straight and useable, but do not display well anymore. They are chrome Z06 replica wheels and the New England salt has caused some chrome peeling, some worse than others. There is also some curb rash. -The tires are all nice and useable and I would say have at least 50% tread left on them. The driver side rear leaks air, but I think it may be caused by chrome peeling of the wheel slightly lifting the seal between the wheel and tire. -There is surface rust under the car and under the hood in some places. It is not extreme rot and there are not holes, etc. These cars do not have that much metal to begin with. -The front turn signal markers look to be a different color, only because one bulb is amber and the other clear. -Windshield has a tiny pockmark on the extreme passenger side near the inspection sticker. It has been there for a while, does not spread, and is not anywhere near the field of view.-Passenger taillight has some condensate inside and a crack on the far tip (where it starts to wrap around car) Interior: -Excellent interior! One of the best I have seen for a car of this age and miles. Even driver side seat bolster is nice and not worn like most cars. No stains on the carpets or seats as well. -Color is dark gray, which was available on cars from 1997-1999. -Door panels have the common cracks that most all Trans Ams have, even low mile cars. No dash pad cracking, however, which was also common. -Radio is the Monsoon cassette player with the 12 disc CD changer located in the hatch. Everything works and there is only wear on one radio station button. -Headrests are custom embroidered with the Firehawk logo and car number (151). The color scheme is the same as the Firehawk decals on the doors. -Power windows all work, with the driver side window motor/regulator being recently replaced. -Firehawk floormats are not present. The regular F-body dark gray mats will come with the car. Mechanical: -The Auburn differential was basically blown when I got the car at 140K miles. It was replaced with a brand new Strange Engineering 12 Bolt rear, which is superior to the original 10 bolt. It has 3.42s, was powdercoated, and has the aluminum cover w/ drain. -Car is all stock except for the 12 bolt. No mods! -The 4l60e transmission also went recently and has been replaced with a stock unit that looks recently rebuilt. It shifts and functions excellent. -The LS1 engine runs strong, starts great, and keeps good oil pressure. -The car brakes excellent, all four wheels have new ceramic brake pads. -The original driveshaft was replaced with a GM steel unit. -A/C does not blow cold. -The engine light is on, but it is emissions related (secondary air injection if I remember correctly). Since the car is over 15 years old, it bypasses emissions testing in Massachusetts and receives Inspection Stickers anyway. -When the headlights are on, the left turn signal indicator on the dash stays on. The signal is not actually on though, and still functions properly when the lever is pressed. -Sport suspension (shocks/struts/springs) package is all still in place. -Headlights work excellent with no noise from the motors. The Drive: -Car starts, runs, and shifts excellent. -There is what seems to be some slight noise from the brakes, but I have not found the cause. The brakes work great and have not overheated. -After a longer drive, when backing up and turning there seems to be some noise (churning, rubbing) that could be the rear differential. I'm not sure as the car did this since the 12 bolt was installed. To be honest, the noise sounds terrible, but after 30K miles the issue hasn't materialized into anything. There is no noise under normal driving. Miscellaneous: -Great candidate for a restoration given the rarity and potential for future value. -Great candidate for a high horsepower build. -Great candidate for a part out if you want to spend the time effort. This car is worth a lot of $$$ in parts! $2500 for engine/trans...$800 for hood....$1500 for 12 bolt rear....etc, etc and that's on the conservative side! -Note that I have no idea of the history of this car before I got it at 140,000 miles (October 2012)! It now has 172,xxx miles. Overall, this is not a perfect car and I would say it needs some cosmetic and mechanical work if that's the route you choose. It is almost 17 years old and as such there is no warrantee implied with this sale. It is sold "as is" and all sales are final. I have done my best to describe this car accurately and mention everything I can think of. Feel free to ask questions, request more pictures, come see the car, etc. If a good offer is placed, I will contact the potential buyer and make sure they intend to pay before accepting. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due via Paypal within 48 hours of sale. The rest will be due before the car leaves for pickup/shipment. Thanks.
