Vehicle Detail

This is the best Mangusta I have seen offered ever. It is not an “excellent car”, or “superb restoration”. Is a car that has been brought to exact condition as it was when it came out of the factory in 1969, including all quality control check paint in the suspension, with all the correct pieces in place. This car has all, form show readiness to a famous first owner and clear title. This Mangusta has all the original parts included in the list below, many of them not found in past cars being offered. Paint and interior quality is superb, not clear coat repainting, but original lacquer. Serial number is 8MA-882. The color is a stunning orange (“Rosso Aurora”), one of the two colors deemed most desirable in a Mangusta, the other being apple green. I have owned this car for the last 19 years. The car has 25,469 original kilometers (about 16k miles), in total. She accumulated less than 400 miles during the 19 years with me. The car is offered for sale in auction with a reserve price at 50% of the current asking price for a Mangusta, so the car will sell !! At the reserve price, collector car dealers can make a nice profit. See Kelly’s blue book, and recent auctions. A mangusta USA version (less desirable), is expected for auction at Pebble beach ( http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1970-de-tomaso-mangusta/#tab2 ), expecting to raise 350-400k. 2 years ago I decided to restore it to exact factory specs. As the car was intended for my personal use, I spare nothing in the rebuild, and finished the car to be presented presented in Collector show in March, 2015. TITLE: This car is titled to the then Mexican President in 1969. Was a gift to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz (son of the president with the same name), and the tittle is addressed to him at “Presidencia de la Republica Mexicana” (Mexico´s President Office).Original invoice included with the car. BODY: This car was completely disassembled, paint removed and carefully inspected. All exterior was found clean n with no damage at all just minor rust in some lower parts. There are positively no faults in this chassis, or body; there is zero filler in this car. Floor panels were replaced, all metal is perfect, and a rust treatment was applied to the body. The body was then treated with DuPont’s adhesion promoter. The primer used is also the industry’s best. PAINT: To keep the car absolutely original, Lacquer was used, as it was done at the DeTomaso Factory. From an original Color Code from Glidden Salchi (paint used in Ferrari, Maserati and DeTomaso), the original “Rosso Aurora” (Sunshine Red) was obtained, and painted to perfection. You will not find any glitch or imperfection in this car! GLASS: All glass is original and correct VISARM dated January, February and March 1969. The side glass shows some minor scratches, normal with age, nothing deep and absolutely no damage to them. TIRES AND WHEELS: Wheels are original Campagnolo Magnesium (ultralight), with no damage, no dents. Perfectly aligned, with original Campagnolo stickers. Paint is highly resistant aluminum with a strong clear coat, just as original. Tires are genuine Michelin XWX, the option tire coming from the deTomaso factory. Stock tires were Dunlop racing tires CR65, bias ply, but at the time, Michelin produced its first radial tire, capable of doing 300 kph (about 180 mph), immediately Ferraris and Lamborghini shoed their cars with Michelin. For deTomaso, it was an option tire. 8MA-882 has fresh, hard to get, and very expensive Michelin XWX, correct sizes, 195/70 in front and spare, and 225/70 in the rear. These tires have less than 5 miles (yes, five miles) on the car. INTERIORS: Best quality leather was used for seats, dashboard and central console, and, just as in the original, vinyl in the doors, and back panels. The dashboard has the spare for the radio, in case the new owner wants to install one. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:Engine is the original Ford small block, correct engine number as stated in the title. Dual Points distributor, impressive sound. Transmission is the famous ZF, same the ones used in Ford GT-40 winner of Lemans of thoe years. New exhausts and ignition cables. 8MA-882 has, among other, the following original parts, that I have noticed missing in previous offers: Aluminum shield for headers.Veglia Borletti InstrumentsNew NOS turn/highbeam/horn switchRear air intake aluminum xxxCarello #03.240.700 headlights, low beamCarello #03.245.700 headlights, high beam.Carello # turn signals.Magnesium Campagnolo rims. Original Air filter coverTool set, correct with old and new tools. One set of original keysService Manual (Original)Asbesto fiber for heating insulation has been replaced with ceramic fiber LOCATION AND CAR INSPECTION: Car is located in Mexico City. I encourage personal inspection of the car. It can also be inspected via Skype, or FaceTime, but as I am pretty occupied an appointment is needed for me to set up the skype time. Any doubts please email at Gonzalo.develasco@gmail.com or SMS or call +(52 155) 2095 2030 . I may be busy at the time but I always return the calls. PAYMENT AND SHIPPING: To protect both buyer and seller, EBAY’s escrow service (escrow.com) may be used to guarantee delivery and payment. I will ship worldwide. In a closed container to Laredo, TX, USA or England (port of entry). We will arrange if shipping is to any other country. Shipping cost is not relevant to the value of the car. Importation into USA is straightforward, as is for any car over 25 years old. There are no requirements to meet to import, other than a clear title with the chassis and engine number on it. SPECIAL NOTES: 8MA-882, as all Mangustas, was assembled by hand. Many cars have different parts than others.: GHIA BADGES. Most Mangustas have a Ghia Badge in the each fender. At times deTomaso ran out of parts, so there are 2 Mangustas know to be missing the Ghia Badge. In my opinion this makes this car to have one more thing to talk about. I have photographs of the fenders in perfect shape, bare metal without ever having ever had the badge perforations. So I choose not to touch the metal, but I have the NOS badges and will be delivered with the car, or I can install them in the original place. MIRRORS. Mangustas were delivered without outside mirrors, and without radio. Those were installed by the dealer. The car will be delivered with the pair of color matching original Vitaloni Mach1 mirrors. Before delivery I can install those either in the doors, or British style, in the fenders. Minor details: The Jack may not be original. and I just found a small leak in the A/C compressor the I am fixing right away. On Jul-10-15 at 11:45:03 PDT, seller added the following information: July 10th Update: Given the interest of a serious bidder and collector, and doing a numbers check, we found that the engine in this car is a 302, and not a 289. I called the previous owner, to whom I bought the car almost 20 years ago, and he confirmed that the original engine overheated, so he changed the block, maintaining original components, but with aluminum heads. I need to mention this now, and I will notify all bidders, in case this news affects their interest in the car. On Jul-11-15 at 09:49:14 PDT, seller added the following information: July 11th Update. Thanks to another bidder advise and support, we found it is simple to get a 289 HiPo Engine (Block and heads) or complete engines. Here in EBay or Hemmings: Shelby block for 8K, HiPo heads for 2K. A complete "perfecto" engine can be obtained for 8k to 15K, with matching casting dates. Engine is a direct swap, and you wold have current engine with aliminum heads to spare. That would make this beautiful car correct, at a very small cost. I will continue to answer all questions and post more pictures that have been requested. I have to acknowleddge that sone pf the pictures are not the best quality, but the car is. Many of the pictures that I posted recently are better quality and can be zoomed out, please check. On Jul-16-15 at 07:24:15 PDT, seller added the following information: July 16th update: The shipping terms are not clear above. Here is the detail: I will ship, at my expense, in a closed container and insured to the border, Laredo (Mexico), and deliver to a USA customs broker for importation into US and Canada. Importation into USA is responsibilty of and to be paid by winning bidder. Cost of importation into USA is about 3% of car value plus broker fees. In the case of Europe, I will ship at my expense to shipping agency at mexican port. Shipping from mexican port to Europe, Roll on-Roll off is about $1,500, in a closed container a bit more. I expect buyer to cover this part, since cost depends in the buyer shipping preferences. Importation fees and duties are responsibilty of buyer. The car is in as new condition, and is sold "as is". It will be certified of aesthetical and mechanical excelent condition by an expert before shipping, This certificate is final condition acceptance by buyer. Payment terms are to be agreed with buyer, downpayment (15%) before shipping, balance upon arrival to custom bróker or shipping agency.
