I grew up in the backseat of a fintail when my dad was stationed in Germany.  He and I went to Stuttgart in 1962 to pick up the classic beauty.  It was virtually identical to the model that I am now selling.  I have several classic fintails and storage is becoming a challenge.  There fore I am offering this one for sale.  Look for more later on in 2015.   A bit of history:  The Mercedes-Benz W111 was a chassis code given to its top-range vehicles, including 4-door sedans, produced from 1959 to 1968. The W111, was initially attributed only to 6-cylinder cars with 2.2-litre engines.  Mercedes-Benz emerged from World War II as an automaker in the early 1950s with the expensive 300Adenauers and the 300SL roadsters that gained it fame, but it was the simple unibody Pontons that were the volume models.  Work on replacing these cars began in 1956, and the design focused on passenger comfort and safety. The basic Ponton cabin was widened and squared off, with larger glass area improving driver visibility. A milestone in car design were front and rear crumple zones that would absorb kinetic energy from impact. The automaker also patented retractable seatbelts. The exterior was designed for the European and North American markets. The body was modern and featured characteristic tailfins that gave the models their nickname — the fintail (German: Heckflosse). In summer 1965, production was terminated in launch of the new Mercedes-Benz W108 sedan. A total production of the 220Sb - 161,119. Mercedes-Benz opted to continue producing the W111 as a new model 230S. The 230S, became a flagship model of the Mercedes mid-range cars (predecessors to today's E-class).On Jul-10-15 at 08:46:16 PDT, seller added the following information: THIS BENZ IS BETWEEN A CONDITION 2 AND 3 VEHICLE AND HAGERTY VALUATION GUIDE PLACES THE VALUE OF THIS 1961 220SB BETWEEN $14,000 AND $22,000.  FINDING ONE WITH A KUHLMEISTER, VINTAGE BECKER EUROPA RADIO IN TURN KEY DAILY DRIVER CONDITION IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE.  HAPPY BIDDING AND GOOD LUCK.   HAGERTY VALUATION CHART :  1961 Mercedes-Benz 220Sb 4dr Sedan 6-cyl. 2195cc/124hp 2x2bbl   The average value for this vehicle is:$14,569 (Please see the picture of the chart in the pictures)   This Benz is between a condition #2 and condition #3 vehicle. VEHICLE CONDITION 2: #2 cars could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 cars that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, but will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass and interior will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, no unusual noises will emanate from the engine compartment. The vehicle will drive as a new car of its era would. The one word description for #2 cars is "excellent." VEHICLE CONDITION 3: #3 cars could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 car, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior. #3 cars drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These cars are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 car.
