Vehicle Detail

Here for your consideration is this absolutely stunning 1971 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce 1750 in Muschio Verde Chiaro (Moss green light) This is the series 2 USA model manufactured in Milan Italy in the summer of 1971. Only 1150 of these models were imported into the USA in '71. There were none imported in 1969 or 1970 and 1971 was the last production year for this car. As such, this is fast becoming the must-have model for the serious collector or Alfa fanatic. This car has been completely reconditioned bumper to bumper with the original correct engine completely rebuilt and updated, beautiful leather interior, new suspension, custom exhaust, powder coated wheels, and much more. You will not find another one like it on the road today. This vehicle has recently been inspected and serviced and comes with a pre-purchase inspection report from my shop: Makes and Models in Layton Utah. Makes and Models is a high-end service facility that specializes in European imports. Please read the following detailed description of this gorgeous car. History:This car has been in my family for 18 years, my father purchased it in 1997 from the 1st owner. It had been in dry indoor storage and not driven since the early 90's. It was the classic "barn find" It had 47,000 original miles and was in great shape but needed some tlc. In the next few years it was re-painted and the interior was completely updated with new custom leather upholstery. In 2003 the engine overhaul began but the project was eventually put on hold. The car was kept in dry storage and the engine rebuild was not finished until 2013. During those years much work was done on the rest of the car a little at a time. Since 2013 all the finishing touches have been done with over $6000 worth of service and upgrades done in just the last two years. The car has a clear title with no accident history. I have a large file of receipts dating back to 1997 that is extensive but not complete. I do not know the history of the car pre-1997 except that it was originally registered in Arizona. Body and paintThe body is straight and clean with only minor cosmetic flaws. It was repainted in 1998 to match the previous color: Alfa Romeo #227 Verde Muschio Charo ( Moss Green Light) The original paint sticker is in the trunk and the new one is in the engine compartment. Any previous rust issues were taken care of at that time. Both driver and passenger floor panels were replaced. The car currently has no visible rust and no significant structural rust anywhere on the car. It has spent much of it's lifetime in dry storage. If you look real hard there are some light traces of surface rust in the under carriage. The front valance under the bumper has some rock chips and light rust/dents along the leading edge. It does not show but is really the only part of the body that needs attention. For some reason that was not re-painted with the rest of the car, probably because it doesn't really show unless you get down on the ground and look up. My mechanic reports there is "no significant rust anywhere" The paint was done 17 years ago and the car has been driven about 7000 miles since then so it is not perfect. My dad lived on a gravel road so the underside does not present as well as the top side but everything is clean and structurally sound. The rear corner panel and fuel door on the drivers side has scratches from a shopping cart and the rear panel on the passengers side has a very hard to see slight depression. One of the jack slots is crushed flat. (this does not show and is not important with the Alfa scissor jack included) From a distance the paint looks fantastic but up close under scrutiny there are minor imperfections, scratches, chips, etc. It is not a concourse level car but it would not take much to get it there. In 2013 the fender wells, spare tire well, and underside from the rear axle back were sanded down to bare metal and coated with a matte black bed liner paint to seal and protect the metal from any future rust. My pricing reflects the condition of the body and paint, if it were perfect I would be expecting a much higher price for this beautiful car. Chrome, Windows, Doors, trimThe chrome is all original and presents very well, there are some minor scratches and imperfections. The bumpers have a few dings. The glass is all original. The badges are all original except the pilar badges, those are new old stock. The headlight chrome bezels have been replaced. The door seals are all new rubber as is the rear trunk seal. Both doors open and close tight. Perfect shut lines on the front hood and doors. The front grill is new old stock as well. The windows roll up and down easily and the wing window cranks work perfectly. The passengers side window needs adjustment. The round rear view side mirrors are original. Engine & Transmission The engine overhaul was completed in 2013. Everything in the engine compartment has been rebuilt, replaced, or updated. The original 1750 DOHC engine has been completely rebuilt from the inside out with all new genuine Alfa part. The original Spica fuel system has been replaced with dual Webber carbs and custom K&N air stacks. New water pump, re-conditioned radiator, new fan belt, updated electronic ignition, new distributor, Interstate battery new in 2012, all new plugs, wires, hoses, new windshield washer reservoir, new exhaust manifold, re-painted cam-shaft cover, everything clean and detailed for appearance. This engine only has 2800 miles on it since the rebuild and starts easily and runs like a champ. No smoke and does not leak a drop of oil. (which is rare for an old Alfa!) The first oil change was done at 500 miles and the second at 2000 miles. The car has only been driven about 300 miles since the last oil change and we have only used Lucas oil synthetic racing oil. Lots of torque and 132 horse power. The original hanging oil filter was replaced with an adapter so you can use standard spin-on oil filters. This makes oil changes much easier. I would rate the engine and all components at 100% This fresh, strong motor will give you many years of trouble-free service. The 5 speed manual transmission was recently serviced and has new red-line fluid. There is a slight second gear synchro crunch if you are not used to driving it. This is common in these Alfas. Only from 1st to 2nd, and sometimes downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I can drive it all day in all road conditions and never grind a gear with proper technique. The upper gears are all smooth. Everything is tight but it does "sweat" a small amount of clear fluid over time. My heated garage has a painted floor and over the course of the winter it left maybe a spoon full of fluid. The exhaust is a custom Magna Flo system that gives the engine an incredible sound. A deep rumble that that is strong but not too loud, great tone and one of my favorite things about this car. Wheels, Tires, BrakesThe original steel wheels have been fully restored. They were sandblasted inside and out down to bare metal and powder coated wheel silver-grey. They will last forever and never rust again. The powder coating makes them super easy to clean, just wipe them off, nothing sticks. The original chrome hubcaps are in excellent shape and present well. The right hand side has right hand lug nuts, and the left hand side has left hand threads which is unique to these cars. The tires have very little tread wear, less than 5000 miles. They are ten years old but have been protected from UV rays and not driven on much. The brand is Fulda Carat Assuro. I am not familiar with this European brand but they perform well and have a smooth ride. The four-wheel disc brake system was also updated. The front rotors were replaced and the rear rotors turned. The calipers have been rebuilt and repainted bright yellow to match the new springs and shocks, very sharp. Recent inspection shows the pads to be a good shape with some wear. The original master cylander was replaced. Absolutely no issues with the braking system. InteriorThe original seats (front and rear) have been professionally re-upholstered in genuine leather with green piping on the trim to match the color of the car. The door panels, gear shift boot, parking brake boot, and sides of the center console are also leather. The head liner is new and perfect. The rear window sill cover is new, the lens covers on the courtesy lights are new. The dash has a new cap on top and a new solid wood face. The center console is new old stock Italian veneers. The Spalted Maple shift knob was custom built by a Vermont wood working shop and is gorgeous. The original "personal" steering wheel has been refinished and has new horn button spacers. The bezel on the fuel and water temp gauge is new. The accelerator pedal is new and the clutch and brake pedals have new pads. The carpet set is new and the floor mats are new custom imports with the Alfa Logo. It has an Alpine four speaker AM/FM/CD sound system with a detachable face plate. The original lap belts have been replaced with shoulder restraints for safety. There are no belts in the rear seats but you would have to be tiny to fit back there anyway. It is essentially a two seater and the rear seats have never been used. Unique and clean, no attention to detail has been spared. I always get compliments on this interior. Suspension and SteeringAll new suspension done in 2015. New Koni Yellow shocks, new Center-line powder coated performance springs, new axle straps, new bump stops, new stainless hardware, new tie rods. The steering box was rebuilt and the steering wheel is perfectly centered. Steering is tight, no play in the wheel and the car handles perfectly. It is an absolute blast to drive on curvy roads. Everything 100% here. Trunk, Fuel Tank, Spare Tire The trunk has a new carpet set and is in excellent condition. The original spare wheel has been sanded and repainted. It has a Michelin spare tire with 100% tread. The fuel tank was removed from the vehicle and restored inside and out with a new liner and new paint. It also has a new sending unit. The tank looks sharp from the inside and from the underside of the car. Also included is an original Alfa Romeo tool kit and scissor jack. The rubber seal is new. No rust anywhere. ElectricalEverything has been gone through and updated. At the time of this writing everything is working except as noted below. All lights, turn signals, head lights, brake lights, charging system, and dash/instrument lights are working. New interstate battery in 2012. The gauges all work although the speedometer and fuel gauge does flutter a bit. Odometer and trip meter work. It has an updated electronic ignition (no points, starts easily every time) Everything electrical has been inspected and serviced by Makes and Models. The only minor issues are the interior courtesy lamps, they have new lens covers and new bulbs but at last inspection they were not working. It is probably something very simple, these are supposed to come on when the doors open and the headlights are on and can also be switched on manually. I never drive the car at night so I never used them. There is also a light in the engine compartment that is supposed to come on when you open the hood and the headlights are on. This light works but the switch is missing. I looked for this switch but could not find one. A good flashlight in the glove box would be a better option. Much of the wiring has been replaced and contact points cleaned up. I have a brand new blower motor for the heater/defogger that will be installed prior to sale. I will include a poster board size electrical diagram for future reference and trouble shooting. Also included is extra keys, and owners manual.
