Classically-styled with upright handlebars, plush seats and comfortable riding positions, Intruders come standard with up-to-date technology and can compete with or out-muscle all the other big twins. Among the Intruder lineup, Suzuki’s flagship is the VS 1400 which shares the cruiser design complete with classic "chopper" lines, rich paint and lots of chrome but has a larger air/oil-cooled engine with three valves per-cylinder, overhead cams and a maintenance-reducing shaft final drive system. The Intruder's big 45° V-Twin engine pumps out plenty of low-rpm torque and a low, rumbling exhaust note that adds to the fun of riding a great cruiser. Finished in the most desirable blue/silver paint scheme, this 2001 Intruder VS 1400 is cut above the rest. The basis of its svelte style is a frame so narrow it passes inside the swingarm at its pivot. The tall, slender 110/90-21 front tire, long, raked-out 41mm fork stanchions, small headlight, pulled-back handlebar, tall cylinders and narrow seat and 3.4-gallon tank all conspire to give the Intruder a long, lean look. The influence of American chopper builders is evident. The 45-degree V of the engine isn't obscured by air cleaners, oil lines or other clutter, and both carburetors burrow out of view, one at the top of the engine, the other behind it. Shaft drive simplifies the appearance of the rear end. The clean, clever, compact packaging continues throughout the bike, which hides as many hoses, wires and ugly components as possible. The pieces you can see have a finished appearance. The rear brake hose, for example is stainless steel up in its forward section (where it doesn't have to flex). Original seat vinyl is very well preserved with no cracks, splits or fading.. Passengers appreciate the security offered by the backrest. And a brand new rear fender rack is included! The narrow, raked-out chopper-style lines are original and unique. A couple minor dings can be seen here in the gas tank. Chrome and brightwork still sparkles with no pitting. Left hand grip cap is missing. The 5542 miles on the odometer are original! Front tire shows minor sidewall cracks but still rides smooth. Chrome around the oil cooler is flawless. The bike doesn't leak a drip of oil.This Suzuki is as strong mechanically is it is cosmetically. Riding Experience: Invigorating is the word that best describes this VS1400's ride. In any climate, the powerful engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly through the gears without unusual noises or hesitation and accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your mirrors. The offset crankpins in the 45-degree engine effectively suppresses vibration. No one complains about getting buzzed on the 1400. With acceleration unsurpassed by any big V-twin cruiser and great highway manners, the five-speed gearbox shifts crisply with no problems, neutral is easy to locate and the clutch is smooth with no grabbiness. With only 5K original miles, what would you expect? For blasting to the next state or flying down twisty roads, this big Intruder is an effective urban assault weapon, with strong power and head-turning looks.
