Vehicle Detail
Relisted FOR THE THIRD TIME, due to non-paying bidder! I am not playing games with my listing, so I'd ask the same consideration of bidders. PLEASE only bid or buy if you have read the description and conditions below, have the means, and fully intend on completing the purchase. Please do not come expecting a 2015 Mercedes (this ones cooler, actually, but it is 42 years old, and has patina to prove it). Please, please, PLEASE make all your inspections, decisions & financial responsibilities PRIOR to bidding. Thank you... 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL:A very nice car, in a great color combo: silver with blue leather, and nice silver hard top (included). 88,500 original miles, and over $11,000 in recent service records (included), getting the car in excellent running and driving condition. All new engine mounts, fuel lines, control arms, tires, brakes & much, much more, has been completed in the last 2 years or so. Very rare, ONLY year of the short bumper (no ugly impact bumpers) R107 450SL. Needs nothing to be enjoyed at once. We all know where the pagodas and the others that preceded this R107 platform have gone in value. Get one of these rare birds now, while you still can. Following is a list of recent, major documented mechanical work done on the car: *New radiator*New tires*New engine mounts*New exhaust mounts*New Stabilizer bushings*New Front & rear sub frame bushings*New Control arm bushings *New Fuel lines*New Brake hoses & grommets *Adjusted valves & timing chain (very important!)*New tie rods Most of what's left to do, if you desire, is cosmetic. There are plenty of little things, if you are a tinkerer, but none that will keep you from enjoying this car as intended, while you enhance it. If there is a weak spot with the presentation of this car, in my mind, it is where the clear coat has kind of 'crazed' over the years in several places, most notably on the trunk area. That, or someone got heavy handed with a buffer. It's one of those things where you don't see it at all in certain lights, and in other lights it looks like tiny little scratches everywhere. May buff out? There are also a handful of dings and chips that one might expect on an original and loved 42 year old car. All original blue interior (including working Becker!), is in very good shape, with just a little wear to the drivers bolster, and a few requisite dash cracks. Hard top is beautiful and in excellent condition. The soft top is original, and would keep the rain off in a pinch, but should be replaced for daily use (not that you'd be driving this beauty much with the top up!). The frame is in great condition, so it'd just be a canvas replacement. Those are available here, on eBay, beginning at around $300. The passenger power window seems a little lazy. It does function, but may need attention sometime down the road. The A/C blows cold! Over all, this is nowhere near a concourse show car, but an great, original and low mile driver quality 450 SL. I like this example (& would keep it if I could!) because it is nice and reliable enough to enjoy regularly and with pride, but not so nice that you're afraid to take it out and drive it. Early MBs are rapidly appreciating, and will soon be out of reach for the casual enthusiast. Rarely do you find a realistically priced one that is this original, straight, solid and essentially needless. The beauty of this car is it's originality and especially the color scheme. This is a NO RESERVE auction. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person PRIOR to buying or bidding. Please don't win the auction, and then come pick apart the car in an effort to reduce the price. Your bid is a binding contract. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 100 collector cars, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable domestic shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. International bidders are welcome, but please have U.S. funds and transportation arranged prior to auction's end. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck!
