Vehicle Detail

*This bike has been re-listed with a lower "Buy-It-Now" and "Reserve" price.**The "Buy-It-Now" price does not even cover what we have spent on this bike to get it to where it is now!**If it does not sell at this level, we will simply keep it for ourselves to ride*Up for bid in this auction is a 1977 Honda Goldwing GL1000. This bike only has 27,814 miles on it, and for anyone who knows Goldwings, this is just past “break-in miles” as it is not unusual for these bikes to go 100,000 - 200,00 miles or even MORE when properly maintained! When we purchased this bike it was basically just a barely running basket case. We brought it home and as you can see in some of the photos we took it down and started over from scratch. Over a period of about three months I worked on it as a restoration project bike. Here are some of the parts I replaced in the process (not in any particular order). New Honda fan switch.New Dyna Ignition Coils.New Honda 7” Headlight Rim Ring.New front turn signal signal stem mounts.New choke cable.New front turn signals.New chrome exhaust extensions.New seat rubber bumpers.New fuel lines with new clamps.New Summit Racing stainless steel two inch exhaust clamps.New thermostat O-ring.New water pump gasket set.New exhaust gasket.New Honda thermostat.New rear tire inner tube with TR-4 stem.New Dunlop Rear Tire 130/90-17.New Oil Filter.New oil filter center flow bolt.New rear turn signals.New battery tray strap.New hand grips.New re-chromed headlight bucket.New chrome mirrors.New brakes.New motor oil.New anti-freeze.New rear drive final drive fluid.New air filter base gasket.New spark plugs.New plug wires.New Battery.New Line-X coating.New front brake assembly. Two new throttle cables.New wheel bearings.New front fork seals.New front fork oil.New fuel filter. As you can see we took the bike down to basically engine and frame. This bike came with a Dyna Electronic Ignition. It still had the original Honda coils in place. I replaced the Honda coils with upgraded Dyna coils. I also installed new high performance plug wires which I modified to use with the original Honda boots to keep the plug end of the wires in place as well as debris out of the plug wells.OLD NEW I drained and flushed the fuel tank. I replaced all of the fuel lines, clamps and fuel filter. Once completed, I refilled the tank with 93 octane fuel. I installed both new throttle cables and a new choke cable. I removed the old front brake reservoir which was tired and ugly. It was also not wired for a brake light. I installed a new front brake reservoir which contained a rear brake switch. I then wired the switch to the rear brake light system so now front and rear brake application activates the brake light.OLD NEW The temperature gauge did not work. The fuel gauge also did not work. I rewired both and they now work as they should. I removed the old mirrors and installed new ones.OLD NEW I went through and cleaned up the electrical system and replaced wires that were questionable. I cleaned the connectors and applied corrosion preventative compound to each before re-installing.BEFORE AFTER I removed the old wheel bearings and installed new ones. I installed a new Dunlop rear tire after having it mounted and balanced by our local motorcycle dealer. The front tire is still in good condition with good tread remaining and no cracking.REAR FRONT We cleaned and polished all of the chrome we felt was worth saving. Front and rear fenders look really nice. We sand blasted and Line-X coated the other parts that were rusted beyond being saved by polishing. All Line-X parts were coated by a Line-X dealer. The coating you see was placed over smooth chrome. I had them coat the pieces in a textured finish instead of a smooth finish. BEFORE AFTER This bike came with a fairing on it. I personally did not care for the fairing. I removed the fairing and rewired the bike for a headlight. Since the front turn signals were mounted on the fairing I had to install new front turn signals along with the headlight. We cleaned and treated the seat and backrest. As you can see they are in good shape for being nearly 40 years old. We modified and custom fitted two new chrome exhaust extensions on the mufflers. We removed the radiator and the front engine covers. We installed a new fan switch and thermostat. We also replaced two gaskets that were seeping fluid. We polished the front engine covers before re-installing. BEFORE & AFTER After reassembling, the bike was running better but it still was not right. I took the bike to a Honda Dealer and had them remove all of the carburetors and clean them. Honda removed them, cleaned them, replaced needed parts, re-installed them and balanced them. I also had Honda install a new set of fork seals on the bike. All done Honda charged me over $600.00 for their work. I trailered the bike to Honda. When the bike was finished I rode it home. The service manager told me that what the bike now needed was running. He said that the more it is ran, the better it will run. When I first started the bike it started right up. It took a minute or two for the bike to first warm up in the parking lot. Once I got it out on the road the bike ran flawlessly with tons of power. The bike shifts up and down through all gears smoothly. I am not a speedster on a motorcycle but this bike has sportbike like speed and power. At one point on the way home I ran it up to about 80 mph to check for any type of vibrations. The bike is smooth at 80 mph and has lots of throttle remaining. I would bet that this bike would easily run 120 mph PLUS! On the back roads the bike handles really good through the turns. I have not ridden the bike since I brought it home. I try to start it every day or two and let it run for about 5 minutes or so. This bike starts up instantly first time, every time! I am including the Vetter fairing with this bike that you see in the pictures. It comes with the mounting frame, wiring plug with wire and instructions. If the new owner does not want it then I will dispose of it. This bike will also come with a box of old parts that were removed from the bike. Again, I will dispose of them if the new owner does not want them. Take what you want and I will throw away what you do not want. * * * * * * * * *I have not done any paint work on this bike. This bike has the original paint. It has the typical scratches on it for a bike of nearly 40 years old. All of the painted parts can be removed for repaint. PLEASE NOTE…..THIS BIKE IS A 1977 AND IS NOT A 2007! We started on getting this bike back to where it should be but there are still things that can be done to make it even better. The wheels need to be polished and things like that. However, this bike is ready to ride just like it is! I would not hesitate to take this bike on a long trip just as it is! Everyone is welcome to come by and take a look and inspect this bike. However, we have now cancelled the insurance on this bike so no one will be allowed to ride the bike prior to the new owner taking possession of it. I believe you will see that this motorcycle is now truly unique and in a much better condition than when it was originally purchased. We have spent a lot of time and money putting this motorcycle into the condition that it is now in.
