Vehicle Detail
I wanted a convertible sports car and choose the Karmen Ghia because if needed, repairs could be done at a very modest price compared to other foreign sports cars, plus the classic styling of the car is one of the all time best. I also found interiors could easily be changed out if desired, plus with a standard engine, insurance was very inexpensive. I purchased the car in 1993 and had it restored from the frame up. When we found it was 99.9 rust free however it had a damaged left front fender and a dent in the left side of the nose cone. The dent was pulled out and filled, the fender was replaced and the entire body was painted to a Polar White, which basically is the same color as the hair on a polar bear, showing a hint of yellow/cream. The only rust was under the battery which I guess is quite common for the Karman Ghia's, he didn't cut it out and replace the metal, he ground it out, primed it and painted over it. Other than the wood sports car steering wheel, dash cover and carpet kit, the interior remained original from purchase which I believe is from the factory. We also had a new convertible top made for it and installed a quiet but low and throaty muffler system. As good a shape as the body is on this car it is a bit fixer upper. Here's what it needs. Plastic rear window is split ( it had the original glass window but like a idiot I wanted the plastic instead.)Engine needs repair or replacing, my guess is replacing. It will stubbornly start, run's rough and has has a piston slap when slowing down. 4 paint chip's, one on the nose from when a Christmas tree stand fell on it, and the others, (right fender) are smaller than a dime, don't know where that came from, garage living I guess. A rebuilt engine long block, from used parts can be purchased for around $1,400 and a rebuilt long block with new parts for about $1,700. This Ghia is in position to be a great starting block for a very nice drivable Ghia or..... for someone who wants to take it to much higher level.. It's been in storage in my mother in-laws garage for many years, she recently sold her home and moved to assisted living. My garage can only hold so much so this Ghia is finding a new home and a new best friend. Deposit through Paypal, balance via cashiers check. Car needs to picked up at my location.
