Vehicle Detail
1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible "442" Clone This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect candidate for a 442 convertible recreation at a very affordable price. This Cutty is an original code 67 Sienna car. I haven't seen very many in this color combination except for a fellow 442 buddy of mine. He has a real 1971 442 W-30 convertible painted Sienna with gold W-30 stripes, and a gold convertible top with a Sienna bucket seat interior. I have to say it is one of the nicest and most attractive W-30's I have seen in my life. This one could be made to look exactly like that one with an aftermarket fiberglass ram-air hood, which can be purchased for around $500, and a cut-out rear bumper for approximately $300. Let's not forget the trumpet exhaust tips for under $100, so for a little under $1,000 you can have those nice new parts to install while the transformation is being done. I'm a huge 442 fan, so I know all the prices firsthand. I've done many of these conversions, and know how very satisfying and rewarding the finished product can be. All the money invested along the way of the restoration process will only increase the value of this car. These early 70's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, When the top goes down, the price goes up! You simply need to own a body first before you can install these easy to obtain parts, and some knowledge of the restoration process. This auction is just in time to buy that muscle car convertible that you have been needing for parts, or if you wanted to have a cool old classic to restore. This car does not come with a title, but is free and clear of any liens. The winning bidder will receive a Bill of Sale in their name. I know titles can be obtained through different sources in each of the various states around the country. I also know that many states do not even require a title anymore on these classic and antique cars. In some states you can bring the car to your local Department Of Transportation and they will register it with the vehicle identification number in person. Obtaining a title will be left up to the winning bidder. I do believe a clear title can be obtained rather easily through the Broadway Title Co. in Bangor, ME. That can all be done online with a little research. With the title situation being as it is, I'm selling this Oldsmobile as a parts car. I personally would never want to destroy a car like this, but I'll leave that decision up to the next owner. I have too many projects right now, so I'm selling this cool old drop top as needing a complete restoration to be made into a nice car again. The options include power steering, power brakes, power windows, and a power convertible top. The power windows all still go up and down, but the passenger rear sticks a little bit. The convertible top will need to be replaced, but is still on the car. The back window is missing, but I can put some plastic over the rear window area for transport if the winning bidder would like. The top switch is missing from the dash, but the top does go up and down well by a power window switch mounted under the left side of the dash. Basically, everything will need to be gone through on this car to make it right. According to the previous owner this Olds has a Chevrolet 350 engine that him and his uncle rebuilt and bored 30 over. This engine hasn't even been broken in yet. They also said they rebuilt the turbo-hydromatic 350 transmission. This engine has chrome valve covers, and a new Edelbrock Aluminum intake manifold with a new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. There are newer Hedman headers and newer dual exhaust with new chrome exhaust tips. The outer tie-rods were replaced along with the stabilizer links. A new front stabilizer bar with new bushings were also replaced. The car really sits up nice with the way the suspension is set-up. This engine has electronic ignition, so it starts right up every time, but I do have an Olds Rocket 350 if the winning bidder would like. Several years back when I purchased another Cutlass from an elderly gentleman, I was given an Oldsmobile Rocket 350 with a four barrel quadrajet attached to a turbo 350 transmission that was wrapped in plastic sitting in his garage on a wooden palate. He told me they were both completely rebuilt. I have had that Rocket 350 paired up to the turbo 350 transmission stored on that wooden crate for the last 6 or 7 years inside a shop I share with a buddy in Racine, Wisconsin about 11 miles north of Kenosha. I will offer that engine and transmission to the winning bidder for an additional $500 on top of the winning bid from this auction. The pick up of that engine and transmission will be the responsibility of the winning bidder if they would like to make that purchase. That Rocket 350 is complete from carburetor to oil pan, and should be ready to drop into any GM A-body car. The convertible for sale in this "No Reserve" auction was an original bench seat car, so there was no hole in the center hump. That transformation will have to be done by the new owner in order to hook up the floor shifter. I would recommend that the carpet be replaced, but there is a set of four new black carpeted floor mats. The transmission is currently hooked up to the column shifter. This car does come with a DualGate floor shifter, and console correct for a 1970-1972 Cutlass/442 model. The shifter will need to be rebuilt, but the shifter cable that came with the shifter is included under the console. I've done that conversion several times over the years, and it is a relatively easy process. These cars seem to be worth more with bucket seats and a console for some reason, but I sure do miss the good old bench seat days. I do have a 1971 white bench seat in decent condition if the new owner would like. I would be more than happy to include that in this auction at no charge. These bucket seats have been recently reupholstered, so the should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. There is a complete set of seat belts for the bucket seats, and three passengers in the rear seat. All four interior courtesy lights work as they should. The entire interior is in relatively nice condition as seen in the pictures. This convertible was ordered from the factory with the rare air conditioning option, but some of the components are missing. As seen in the pictures, the A/C box that attaches to the firewall will be included in the trunk. The majority of people didn't order A/C back in the day, since they had the option to put the top down, but at least this car has that option. With some luck at the local swap meets the air conditioning could potentially all be hooked back up again if the right parts are found or you might need all of the parts on this car for a car you already have. The original dash pad is in good shape, and carries a working AM/FM Cassette player. You can actually hear music when the top is down. The dash itself was not all cut up like what was typical done to these cars back in the day, so an original radio could fit in the proper place. I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident other than the minor imperfection visible from the pictures. There was some body repair done on several areas wherever the mismatched paint can be seen. This does seem to be the original paint on this car other than the touched up areas. I believe all the body panels to be original to the car. The 1971 442 grilles are original genuine GM 442 grilles, not aftermarket reproductions. There is a full set of wheel opening moldings, and the Cutlass Supreme stainless steel body side molding. A lot of the chrome is still very usable on this car, or in drivers quality condition. In my opinion the floors and frame look in really pretty good condition. With that being said, the entire body deserves to be gone over to make it right. Although, if someone wanted to have a quick job done on it at an inexpensive price, they can take it over to their local Maaco and have it painted the color of their choice. There is a set of four Firestone raised white lettered steel belted radial tires mounted on 14 inch Super Stock II wheels painted to match the body of the car. There are chrome lug nuts on all four wheels with the bolt-on center caps, and all four beauty trim rings. The original trunk floor needed some repair due to the missing back window, but that was done, and then the trunk was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray like what was used from the factory. The trunk does carry a full size Super Stock II spare, and an original jack and crow bar. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road you can be back cruising in minutes looking complete. There is a 10 bolt rear-end, but I am unsure of the gear ratio. If you double click on the main picture then all the pictures open up on the center of the computer screen, and you can scroll through all the pictures in a large size from left to right. If you take a close look at the pictures most of the original parts are still there. What you see is exactly what you get! These mostly complete older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has this 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible with a 350, and the air conditioning option listed at $30,935 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $14,777 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! As shown in the pictures this Olds Convertible is in about the same condition as what they classify an average condition car. They have the lowest condition value at $10,580 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible prices are $63,000 in high condition, $40,320 in average condition, and $26,9858 in the lowest condition. Why not enjoy the same looking convertible for a fraction of those prices. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have been consistently proven to escalate in value. These GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven. This car is for the guy or girl that always wanted one back in high school, or had one and wants to restore one instead of paying the crazy prices to purchase one already finished. This would be a great father and son project or for the ERA gals of the past, a fun project for the mother and daughter that may be mechanically inclined. There is no finer muscle car on the planet in my eyes than the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or 442 convertible. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a minimal price, or to have all the parts to finish a restoration of a 70-72 Cutlass Supreme or 442 that you already have. If you are serious about bidding on this car then the deposit needs to be paid within 24 hours, and the balance is due within 72 hours prior to this car being picked up. It will be safely stored at my shop that I share with another muscle car buddy until it is paid in full and ready to be picked up. If the funds are not readily available, then please look somewhere else for a rare GM A-body convertible with power windows and the air conditioning options. I try to list everything I can think of when I write a description. If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This car is being offered at "No Reserve" on a 3-day listing. It will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 5pm Pacific, 7pm Central, or 8pm Eastern time depending on your location. Thank You for taking the time to read and view my auction!!! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!
