Vehicle Detail

Greetings, Please read description thoroughly, and view the 15-minute video at the bottom. The video may or may not be visible on eBay mobile (I can't see it on my phone) but it is very visible on your computer. Up for sale is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL 1985 Toyota MR2. I purchased this car for my daughter a little over 3 years ago from a collector in Jacksonville, FL. I flew out, drove it home from FL to TX. My daughter commuted in it for 2 years to High School. I retired from the USAF, and took a job in Alabama. We drove it from TX to AL, and she continued to commute in it to college for nearly a year before it developed a bad knock in the engine. My wife and I bought her a brand new 2014 Veloster Turbo, and the car has been sitting for about 2-3 months. I always said when she got a new car, I'd take this back and build an Auto-X car out of it..... but with 3 brand new 2014 cars, 2 bikes, and a newly acquired woodworking hobby, I have neither the time, the place to do it, nor (quite frankly), the desire. I'm constantly working on my new 3-series, My Harley, and my old KZ police bike I just bought to do a restoration on. Too many projects... time to let this one go. It really is a shame what happened, you would be extremely hard-pressed to find a similar year MR2 in HALF the condition this one is in. I know there is a huge sub-culture of collectors that love these little cars (rightfully so)... and will get her back on the road again. Perhaps there is someone out there has a rusted-out MR2 with a good motor that would want to do a swap? Perhaps someone has the desire to simply repair the motor? In either case, once fixed, you'll have one of the nicest early-model MR2s anywhere, that's worth nearly $4000 (That's what I paid for it) The good: The paint - excellent. Only very few minor flaws - see video The interior - excellent. No bolster wear, no cracks in dash The glass - perfect. No cracks. The weatherstripping - doesn't leak a drop... including the sunroof The tires - 95%, almost brand new The Air conditioning - works 100% perfect... FREEZING cold The cruise control - works 100% perfect The pop-up headlights - 100% perfect, no lag whatsoever The body/frame..... impeccable.... no bondo... no rust. The transmission.... shifts perfectly.... no issues... no slippage... no grinding The exhaust..... quiet... no leaks... no rust - perfect The rear end - just replaced both CV axles less than 1000 miles ago - perfect The title - clean and clear, and in-hand... absolutely no issues whatsoever (plus 20 years of various receipts from previous owner) The bad: The front end - slight vibration at 70+mph (not terrible, but noticeable) - I purchased both upper and lower tie rod ends, and a steering rack bushing kit - all brand new (total - $300) Never got to install them... they come with the car. The engine - starts right up, runs... with a BAD knock. Likely threw a rod, but I have not investigated. Car has been sitting since. - See video. We live about 30 minutes North of Montgomery, AL, in a VERY nice, safe neighborhood. Unfortunately, all the other cars/bikes have taken precedence in the garage space I have, so after being garaged it's whole life, it now resides in my driveway. We are coming up on the rainy season soon, and with a car that's 100% rust free, it would be nice to see someone come pick her up and keep her in a place her back indoors where she belongs. She starts and runs, and you can drive her on to a trailer... but obviously you should not attempt to drive her any distance. I will be happy to keep that car here for up to a full month after the end of the auction, no problem. If you need more time, just let me know, and I'm sure we can work something out. I've bought over 10 cars long-distance, so I completely understand how complicated coordinating pickup is - No worries. I will bend over backward to make the buying experience as painless as possible. If you have questions, ask. If you need more pictures, ask. If you need more specifics on something, ask. If you want to come view the car, you're absolutely welcome to... anytime. In fact, I encourage you to (as I would with any online purchase) With that, all sales are final, and no warrantee is expressed nor implied. I have bought and sold several bikes and cars over the years on eBay, and I earned my 100% feedback rating my listing my auctions honestly, thoroughly, and with no reserve. This one is no different. I am starting the bidding at $400, with NO RESERVE. It WILL SELL to the highest bidder. I have not listed it anywhere else. Craigslist is shady... and I don't have the patience for it. There is no "Buy it now" It will run the full course of the auction. I will not remove it, sell it early, or otherwise. I hate it when sellers have done that, so I won't. If you want it, bid accordingly. Unfortunately, eBay has become a shady place over the past few years.... so I do reserve the right to cancel the bids of anyone I do not feel has "established" themselves as a responsible buyer. eBay will not allow me to put "specific" feedback requirements on the auction (in fact, even mentioning it in the description can get the auction cancelled).... but use your imagination. If you haven't established yourself on eBay... I will cancel your bid, and I will block you from future bids. I really don't care what the car sells for (obviously).... I'd just rather sell it to someone responsible, and not deal with the hassle of some "flake" that has no intention of actually purchasing it. Truthfully, you're doing me a favor by getting it out of my driveway. I don't care about the money, but if I were to list it on Craigslist as "free".... every whackjob from Montgomery would be knocking down my door. So, I've started the auction EXTREMELY low... with no reserve. It WILL sell with as little as 1 opening bid. Don't worry... if you're a responsible buyer like I am... there won't be any problems, and I will bend over backwards to help make the purchase as seamless as possible. Good luck everyone... and happy bidding! --Matt (914er)
