The Maserati Quattro-porte “four-door” is a truly unique and exclusive car. With supercar performance and handling, the Pininfarina design is simply breathtaking - with elegant and timeless contours enveloping a roomy, comfortable interior where, in the finest traditions of Italian craftsmanship, only the highest quality materials are used. The Quattroporte has been in production for over a half-century and is now in its 6th generation - however many consider the exquisite, flamboyant body lines on this penultimate, "Gen-V" design to be the most aesthetically pleasing of all the QP’s, past or present. And now at the bottom-end of their 10-year depreciation curve, smart money is snapping-up these prime, Gen-V Masers at bargain prices as they are quickly becoming the most collectable 4-door Italian supercar. Due perhaps to their need for qualified care and lack of competent mechanics, but also owing to natural attrition during this last decade, it has become very hard to find a Quattroporte V without major "needs" today. So you can imagine our joy when we discovered this highly pampered, well sorted example. The 2005 Maserati Quattroporte featured here, VIN *ZAMCE39A950016342*, was received from the multi-million dollar estate of a prominent executive in Bel Air, California seen here: http://www.dreamhomephoto.com/10472revuelta/mls.htm Used sparingly, in 10 years, the car has never left the Golden State and only covered a mere 49,694 actual, documented miles; that's less than 5,000 miles annually, on average. We wholeheartedly believe it to be one of the finest survivors of its kind, anywhere. The original Owner's Manual, warranty and maintenance books with their factory-supplied pouch accompany the car. Also included are maintenance records since 2006, totaling over $10,000 and enlightening us to the meticulous service history of the car. Services were performed at The Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills and at F & M Motorsports in Los Angeles. In a nutshell: this Maser was surprisingly reliable, never needing anything out of the ordinary. The brakes were serviced, religious oil and fluid changes performed annually and a new clutch was installed at 44, 402 miles. Finally, we just had a California smog check performed and the big car passed the inspection with ease. Let's now take a closer look at this superb motorcar inside and out, top to bottom. Exterior: The starting point of this unmistakable masterpiece is the distinctive front. The traditional Maserati oval grille pays homage to one of the marque’s icons of style, the Berlinetta A6 GCS. Finished in the most desirable color, Grigio Touring Metallic with Nero black interior, Maserati looks impressive from any angle. The finish still looks excellent, with hardly a chip or scratch to report. The majestic bonnet features self leaving xenon headlights that merge seamlessly into the line of the car’s sides, which start from the familiar three air vents behind the front wheels… …and continue in a sequence of muscular curves to the rear lights. The parking lights provide a frame for the wraparound rear lights; these integrate perfectly with the design of the rear bumper with chrome-plated central trim that echoes the design of the radiator grille. Rear DVD entertainment system can be spotted through the rear window. Power sliding moonroof is a factory option. The triangular C-pillar, which features the iconic Saetta logo, is another obvious link to tradition and an uncompromising expression of the model’s innate sporting character. On any Italian car, the state of its coachwork is at least as important as its mechanical components. Carefully assembled by expert craftsmen at the Viale Ciro Menotti factory, all the body seams have a smooth, "seamless" appearance. Ten years after the car was built, its body remains free of major accidental damage with sparkling finish and chrome brightwork. Doors, hood and trunk exhibit perfect shut lines. Best of all, this California Maserati has not been affected by corrosion, since it has not seen any harsh winters or--God forbid!--salted roads. Another essential ingredient of a true Italian thoroughbred, the original 19” chromed alloy wheels--shod with 245/40ZR19 front and Rear225/70-15 radial tires--proudly display Maserati's trident insignia. The Maser’s ride certainly benefits from modern tire technology. With sparkling chrome and minimal curb rash, wheel detail is amazing. Surveying the car's straight and smooth coachwork today, we marvel at every minute detail. In fact, with little preparation, this fine example of the marque could be proudly displayed at a local car show or Concours d'Elegance. Well, then, the Maser's exterior is stunning to behold, but what about the passenger compartment, you may ask? Interior: Outpacing the World's finest cars in terms of sheer luxury, the Quattroporte's immense cabin is a symphony of fine Italian leather and walnut wood. Inside it is equally impressive, spacious yet intimate; the understated opulence underscored by the very best materials and craftsmanship. The 10-year old, black leather upholstery — tailored by leather specialists Poltrona Frau — is still soft, supple and a delight to touch and smell. Befitting a top-level prestige automobile, the Quattroporte was offered in one version only: fully loaded. Power seats, mirrors, door locks, steering and brakes; cruise and dual-automatic climate control, navigation, 5-disk CD: the list goes on and on. It's simply the pinnacle of Italian luxury! Achieving the perfect seating position is quick and easy for ALL 4 occupants, thanks to the fully-adjustable and exceedingly comfortable, heated front and rear seats. The front seats are also massaging and ventilated, with the central part of the seat and back upholstered in perforated leather. Commendable thoroughness is evident throughout the cabin. To mention just two examples: the cellular phone and chilled compartment incorporated in the centre front armrest. Walnut wood trim accents the trademark oval-shaped clock embedded in the middle of the fascia — graced with a dark blue face to match the attractive speedometer and rev-counter — reinforces the knowledge that you are indeed sitting in a Maserati. The large control screen is the access portal for the latest in entertainment, technology, and navigation display and controls many of the car’s functions in a user-friendly manner. In the driving seat, there is a feeling of total confidence and command. The ergonomic three-spoke, leather-clad steering-wheel features buttons that operate the main multimedia functions, and also sports brushed aluminum gearshift paddles. Behind this is a simple but striking instrument panel. The large speedometer and rev-counter surround the travel data display. And the 49,694 miles were meticulously maintained. Another view of the pristinely preserved dash top. Perhaps a Quattroporte's weak spot, often the victim of sticky switches and surfaces, this specimen's shows only minimal symptoms in this area. Another Q-Porte option: the multi-adjustable sliding moon roof. It’s opens and closes perfectly with no leaks or wind noises. The exquisite headliner presents itself in superb, unmarked condition. The walnut wood and contrast-stitch leather are in fabulous condition throughout, indicating that this car has indeed been garaged all its life. Just take a close look at the hand-crafted door panel with white contrast stitching: this is quality at the level of a Rolls Royce, the materials and care of assembly far exceeding mass-production standards. Those travelling in the back are pampered with a capital 'P': the individual electric AND HEATED rear seats (controls in the center armrest) allow rear passengers to stretch out and relax in comfort — -- all the more indulgent thanks to aircraft-style slide and tilt seats and mesh side (manual) and rear (powered) sun blinds. The rear entertainment system was a $7,445 option and includes DVD Player, gaming controls and wireless remote. The acres of leather used inside the big Q-ship remain supple, free of cracks or split seams, and wonderfully aromatic; testimony to a pampered, garaged, smoke-free, low mile interior. Let's take a close look inside the trunk. Cavernous trunk is fully lined with fine velour carpeting. Below this partition are 2 separate storage levels to neatly hold odds and ends. Full complement of factory tools and electric tire pump. Everything in this immaculate trunk looks to have never been used. Let’s have a peak under the hood. Open sesame! Two large struts support the massive hood. Everything looks as clean as humanly possible; even the black hood pad is still intact. Note the superbly preserved components and factory labels throughout. Ferrari- Maserati's masterpiece, the 4.2 Liter, Ferrari-Maserati F136 S V8 engine power plant easily develops 394 horsepower and is backed by the F1, 6-speed, DuoSelect electro-actuated transmission. Just last summer, the clutch assembly was replaced. Depending on how these DuoSelect transmissions are driven, (i.e. manually shifted or left in automatic mode) clutch replacement every 40,000-60,000 miles is considered a “maintenance item”. So this is one very costly expense that you will be spared. Other than typical oil seepage at the rear valve covers, the engine appears fit as a fiddle. It starts instantly, runs and sounds fantastic with no bad habits--such as unusual noises, smoking or fluid dripping on the driveway. With a new clutch and all services performed at the proper intervals, this engine and transmission should provide many more years of outstanding performance with nothing but regular maintenance. Drivability: On the road, progress can be serene — or scintillating. You decide. For the technically-minded, the Quattroporte DuoSelect — derived from F1 technology — is a six-speed robotised manual gearbox by Graziano. It's also used by Ferrari and Aston Martin. There's no clutch pedal and the clutch is operated by an electro-hydraulic pump to give four driving modes: Automatic; Manual; Sport; and Snow+Ice. Left in D, the transmission shifts automatically and makes cruising through traffic or on the highway indulgently habit-forming. And when you decide a sportier, hands-on drive is more appropriate, you can select manual sequential shifting and use the paddles behind the steering wheel. Pressing the “Sport” button spices-up the driving experience even more — firming up the suspension, speeding up the gear change, reducing the level of intervention of the traction and stability program and increasing the sensitivity of the accelerator. Go for it and you won't be disappointed! Ask it, and this Maserati will demonstrate a mix of poised road holding, handling and agility that makes it brilliantly entertaining to drive. Given the chassis' handling dynamics (and 19” tires and alloy wheels), the ride is remarkably — and impressively — compliant. With adaptive Skyhook suspension, 330 mm brake disks and four piston calipers all-around, handling and braking are superb. Ease of operation was Maserati's main concern, and the Quatroporte V doesn't fall short in any respect. It glides along the road like a Cadillac Brougham--until you apply pressure to the right pedal. Instantly, a fantastic surge of acceleration (0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds) enroute to an advertised 171mph top speed reminds you that you are at the helm of a true supercar--albeit one with cold air conditioning and power everything! Better still, it's rev-happy and sings with a throatily sonorous voice that none but an Italian car manufacturer could ever engineer. In spite of this masterful soundtrack, the Quattroporte's cabin is refinement itself at whatever speed it's legal to travel. Absolutely stable at any speed, the Quattroporte is a genuine trans-continental express, offering maximum comfort for four. For over 50 years Modena's grand old marque has claimed its exalted status as one of the world's most prestigious car manufacturers. Being a collector's item as well as a perfectly capable daily driver, a Quattroporte V is the perfect choice for smart investors who want to chauffeur a bespoke automobile without breaking the bank. Now obtainable for the price or a Camry or Kia, you can look like a million dollars at the Country Club. Where other cars lose value daily, you can own a classic car that, with just some routine care, should actually appreciate in value. A wise car guy once recommended, “Buy the best example you can find and you'll always be happy.” Nowhere is this statement more true than in the realm of Italian supercars. Rarely, if ever, will you find one that's as well-preserved as this pedigreed, low-mileage, two-owner, rust-free California Quattroporte. Presently, we have a clear, California Title.
