Vehicle Detail
I am offering this 1972 CT70H 4 speed manual that has been restored to it's original glory. I take a lot of pride in my work and anyone that owns one that I have restored take great pride in ownership. The first picture is the bike in it's original un-restored condition, and the beginning of the restoration. The three stage urethane candy paintwork is done and color matched to perfection. The original matching numbers 4 speed engine has been rebuilt to factory stock and bench tested. All of the components are ready. I will be posting new pictures each day with description as I assemble the bike this week. So tune in and follow along. 1/26 - I had this stand custom made for CT70 frames. It works well for hanging the ornaments. I start with a new OEM chrome frame strip, OEM brake light switch and a new AM coil. Then a new AM wire harness, new OEM harness grommet and original key switch. New OEM rear frame grommet. Seat latch has been bead blasted, zinc coated and then powder coated silver metallic. Original K1 shocks are cleaned polished the springs re-chromed. Rear swing arm attached and rear shocks installed with new OEM acorn nuts. Front and rear fenders have been re-chromed as well as the tail bracket. The tail light assembly is in excellent condition. New OEM Stanley tail light bulb, lens, gasket and screws. New OEM tail light bracket grommets (3) inserts have been zinc coated. 1/28 Tail light assembled, tested and installed. Front forks assembled, new OEM seals and new fork oil. Next is the wheels. The condition of the rim halves and front/rear hubs is excellent. The rims are very straight and not pitted with rust. The brake linings on the front/rear hubs are excellent as well. I love powder coat. Everything was glass bead blasted before coating. Much more durable, easy to clean and it won't rust. looks brand new for a long, long time. I believe these match the original Honda cloud silver very well and sparkle nicely in the sunlight. OEM Bridgestone Trail Wings and I always use the OEM straight stem inner tubes made by Bridgestone. They are more expensive but far superior than any aftermarket tubes I have seen. Very thick heavy construction. You don't want to skimp on the tubes as you don't want to get a flat when you are out riding. No fun changing either. I also like to powder coat the seat bracket, gas tank bracket and the lever tips in gloss black. The battery box and seat latch have been blasted, zinc coated and powder coated to match the silver. I can swap these with zinc finished if you prefer but I think these provide excellent long term rust protection and look great as well. I think the 1972 footpegs are the best set of pegs. The have three positions that snap into place instead of the original style ball bearings that eventually wear grooves in the base and the bearings escape. Gloss black and all the hardware has been zinc oated. These are perfectly straight. Very nice. Tomorrow I will be mounting original correct K1 handlebars that are straight and have been re-chromed. Perfect. Also restored H K1 4 speed speedometer that has been reset to 000 miles. The 1972 Honda Trail 70 4 speed is truly the "Holy Grail" of the early 1970's minibike renaissance. Every 10 year old kid in America wanted a minibike including me. It was 1970. I was 9 years old. I remember having a frame type minibike with a pull start Briggs and Stratton engine. It was a blast! Then one day I saw the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It stopped me in my tracks. It was so new and so different. It was the new Honda Trail 70. Honda sold 100,000 CT70's that year and the CT70 went on to become Honda's third largest production motorcycle in their history. So what could I do? I wanted one so badly. We went on family road trips, pulled a travel trailer and stayed at KOA campgrounds. Every where we stayed, it seemed there was a red Trail 70 mounted to the front or the back of every Winnebago. I had to have one! The problem was that a new one cost $375. Where was I going to find all that cash! I became very ambitious. Paper route, yard work. Whatever I could do to make enough money to get one. Then one day my parents knowing how badly I wanted one helped with the finances and on my 10th birthday it became a reality! We headed to the Honda dealer on a Saturday. There they were! Some stacked up in crates. I had to have a red one. There it was in the showroom. It was Candy Ruby Red. It was the best day of my childhood by far! Then I woke up! I never did get one. I did end up with a Gemini Boss 80 a year later. It was green, made in Taiwan, and I rode the hell out of it! Fast forward to the future. It hit me one day and I remembered how badly I wanted that Honda so I set out to find one. It was an Emerald Green 4 speed and it was very tired. That was 11 years ago and I have been restoring them ever since. Perfecting the process I have restored many and have loved every minute. I primarily restore the early models specializing in the 4 speeds. They only made them for two years and are the most sought after. It's those wonderful candy colors and all that chrome! I have never sold any completely restored bikes on eBay as it seems as soon as I finish one it's sold. I have shipped them all over the country and have many repeat customers. I do have others. If you had a Candy Gold 3 speed, an Emerald Green or Topaz Orange 4 speed, I can help you relive your childhood. Candy Ruby Red, Candy Sapphire Blue, Candy Blue Green and Candy Yellow Special. I can also build to your custom specifications and rebuild original Honda engines to 88cc or 108cc. Let me know. This bike can be registered and titled in Minnesota at new owner's request and expense. I can assist you with shipping. You are welcome to pick up or make your own shipping arrangements. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration. Good luck!
