Vehicle Detail
I’ve been working on this car for the last 3 years, and I hate to do it, but it’s time to sell it. This is a very complete ‘mechanical’ restoration and I would have no issues getting in this car and driving it on long trips. My goal was to build the coolest family surf wagon on the road. I’ve been driving it weekly for the past 2 years and have hardly had any issues with it. Here’s a list of what’s been done: Brakes: All steel and rubber lines have been replaced. New disc brake conversion up front and rebuilt stock drum brake cylinders in the rear. New power brake unit with dual reservoir, master cylinder. Suspension: New dropped spindles and lowered coils in the front and lowering blocks in the rear. It’s settled a little bit since I did the suspension, so it’s pretty low. Your preference might be to raise it a little. Engine: Fuel injected 5.7 TBI motor out of a 1994 Chevy Suburban (approximately 60k miles). Doesn’t leak a drop and doesn’t smoke. Stock ECM tune with custom wiring harness that ties into the gauges and the rest of the car. New alternator, new battery, new aluminum radiator and new SPAL electric fan, as well as the engine driven fan. Jack Daniels approved coolant overflow bottle. New external fuel pump and all new fuel lines. Not exactly sure, but I think it’s gets about 18 mpg. Trans: Rebuilt turbo 350 with new U-joints and balanced driveshaft. Trans cooler built into the new aluminum radiator. Electrical: Custom wiring harness that ties into the ECM. Every wire in the car is new and all connectors are new, high quality, OEM style Metri-pack connectors. New blade style fuse block. Interior: New carpet, headliner, seats and door panels. Inside was completely gutted and entire floor was rubber coated. Custom fabricated center console with Lokar shifter. New faux wood flooring in the cargo area. All interior trim pieces were media blasted and painted. All new felt channels around the windows and new weather-stripping on the doors. New windshield and rubber. New wing window rubber. All door components were cleaned and lubed so all the door hinges and latches and window cranks work well. Rear lift gate and tailgate retractors work well too. Lift gate glass needs to be removed and replace the rubber because it leaks sometimes. Dash: New Dolphin gauges. Speedometer is off by about 6mph, needs new gears in the trans I think. When the interior was out, the dash was media blasted and painted. New Pioneer CD with remote. AC system: New compressor, condenser, dryer and custom lines. Vintage underdash evaporator unit. System blows ice cold. Even here in Arizona on a hot summer day, the inside stays fairly cool and the engine stays cool as well. Exterior: The car was probably painted about 20-30 years ago and has really cool patina. All trim and molding is there and has a very cool ‘driver quality’ look. I removed the front sheet metal and media blasted the frame rails and firewall for paint. I also blasted the engine fenderwells and core support and painted those as well. Basically, everything under the hood is like new. The car must’ve been from Arizona originally because there’s no rust to speak of. The rockers, floorboard, fenderwells and bottoms of the doors are near perfect The tires are decent, but probably need to be replaced soon. The tread is good, but there’s some cracking on the sidewalls. No heater assembly and no windshield wipers. Here in Arizona, AC was a lot more important. I dont know the actual mileage because there was no speedometer in it when I bought the car. The new speedo that I put in is up to 1,686 miles. Like I said before, this is just a really good, ‘driver quality, mechanical restoration’. The car isn’t perfect, but it’s a very solid car to get in and drive and enjoy. The car has been very good for me and I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have. Email me if you want any other details or pics.
