Vehicle Detail

1971 Karmann Ghia, very good condition. I am listing this fun little car on behalf of my son and daughter-in-law. They bought the car about 7 years ago, right after they were married, and are now reluctantly selling because it can’t accommodate their growing family. During their enjoyment of the car, they invested a lot of time and money in refurbishing it and bringing it up to a higher overall condition, and also improving its reliability. The car has spent the last five years in Florida, and comes with a clear title. It has been kept in covered parking the whole time and has been driven about 1,000 miles per year over the last 4 years. The car is currently in Boca Raton and can be seen by making an appointment. Mechanically, the car is in very good condition. The original engine has been replaced with another unit that had approximately 25,000 miles on it. The car drives very well, and the engine and transmission are strong and drip free. The brakes work well and all the ancillaries are in working order. Cosmetically, the car is rust free, and the chartreuse paint looks good and shiny, but is not perfect. The paint has been touched up in the past, but is not noticeable unless really looking closely. The passenger rocker area under the door has been scrapped and slightly damaged by passing over an obstacle of some kind, however is not rusty and only the paint has been damaged As mentioned, a considerable amount of money and effort has been invested to bring the car up to its current very good condition. All the work was performed by the leading New England Karmann-Ghia restoration specialists, Brims of New Hampshire. The following work has been completed in the last five years, and all receipts are included with the car: Replaced motor with lower mileage (25,000) motor, new motor mount, new clutch kit, new fuel line, repainted motor shroud Restored convertible top frame New Stayfast top cover, new window seals, new headliner, pad kit, Replaced door panels, sprayed with rust fighter Repaired car floor and sprayed with new undercoat Re-chromed German hubcaps Re-stuffed driver’s seat The biggest problem with the car is that the new top needs to be readjusted to be completely tight. The top itself is in excellent condition and just shows one minor mark in the middle. The fold-down rear window is slightly misaligned but does provide a good seal. Other minor issues with the car include: The heaters were not reconnected when the engine was replaced. Factory AM radio works intermittently. Probably a loose connection. The original (front) trunk release broke and has been replaced with a simple but effective piece of wire. The tires have plenty of tread, but are getting old. It is fine up to 60-65mph. At 70 it gets blown around. Probably like when it was new. This 1971 Karmann Ghia convertible is a reliable seasonal daily driver on which is driven about 1,000 miles per year. It goes to an air-cooled VW specialist mechanic for regular maintenance and servicing. This little gem is a major head turner, and brings a smile to the face of everyone who sees it. Every time the car is taken out, it gets a thumbs up, or a smile and a wave. We welcome the opportunity to show the car to local buyers. Please feel free to write for an appointment or with any questions you may have.
