Vehicle Detail
For sale is my MKIV 2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI GLS. It has the sought after 1.9t ALH motor with the 5 Speed Manual Transmission. The GLS includes a power sunroof, alloy wheels, velour seats, upgraded stereo and sound system, an armrest, power mirrors, power locks and windows, and cruise control which the GL does not come standard with. It has a low 88,000 miles, indigo blue exterior with black/grey interior. The car is in great shape, mechanically and cosmetically. It is VERY up to date on maintenance, especially the major one. Clean carfax with no accidents or paintwork. I am the second owner, I've owned it for 6-7 months, used it a few times a week to commute to school for the great mileage. It was owned by an elderly couple before me. I'm selling it because it's a lot of money to have invested in a daily driver for me- If it was my only car I would definitely keep it, but I have 4 right now. Another golf TDI with high mileage came up for sale locally and for cheap so I picked that up like 2 months ago. It's now drivable but it needs work, mechanically and cosmetically, so I would like to sell this gem and register, drive, and fix up that one instead. I have an awesome weekend warrior project going on that will be finished shortly so I can use the difference in money between the two TDI's toward parts for the other cars. This car averages 45mpg, about 42 city and 50 highway. For those that do not know, this is one of the greatest diesel motors VW has developed. The "golden era" of VW's diesels. The ALH (ended in 2003) can reach mileage of 400-500k and has the least amount of problems when compared to other diesel motors (and also much more tolerant to the type of oil used, which the later engines were very picky with the type of oil. The wrong oil, which was listed in the manual, which dealers still use to this day, ruined cams/motors. *There was a service bulletin on this, but some dealers still use the wrong oil) The manual transmission demands a premium also because, well, everyone that knows anything about the autos in these cars, knows that they all seem to wear as fast as your tires and cost about $3,000-$4,000 to replace with used or rebuild. Maintenance • Timing Belt and Water Pump kit from idparts.com that was done in early October. It was checked using vagcom timing checker and adjusted accordingly to make sure everything was in spec. • Brakes done all around (Pads and rotors). Front was just done last week, 100 miles or so, and rear has maybe 2k miles on them. • Motor was decarbonized • New Bosch battery only 1 month old (cost me $170 after core) • Oil changed a few days ago • Wiperblades and headlights bulbs all about 1 month old • Glow plug harness replaced at 88k • Tires replaced at 81k • Alignment at 81k • Fuel filter, brake flush air/pollen filter, and recalled brake light switch done at 81k • coolant sensor at 73k • glow plugs 65k Good/Misc • Low mileage • Nice color/int combo • ALH & 5spd • GLS model with sunroof • No Check Engine Light or any other light • Up to date on maintenance • Clean carfax, body, and paint • Handles Great • Drives straight, no shakes/vibrations • Starts up in all weather with no problem after first cycle • Transmission is smooth, clutch is strong • Motor is smooth, idles, accelerates, and cruises great. • Turbo is healthy, spools up with ease. I have no problem passing people on the highway unlike many other tdi's that I've driven. • AC and Heat work great • Exceptionally clean for age Bad/Misc (You will not find anything wrong with this car other than what I listed/pictured) • Small bubble spot on the lip of each front fender (pictured the worse one) • Rear headrests are missing along with the trunk liner • Some cosmetic flaws (such as a small ding/scratch here or there, the worst being the front grille scratches and hood dent. Looks like it was lightly backed into. It's hard to see at some angles) The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the listing early.
