Vehicle Detail

You are viewing a very clean, 1987, Guards Red, Porsche 944, 5 speed, with the ultra rare and desirable limited slip transmission. This makes for unparalleled traction and handling. This car runs and drives great. It is very good mechanically, and the interior is in very good condition as well, the only real blemish being a tear on the driver's seat bolster, as usual. The exterior is decent. There is NO rust whatsoever, just some typical dings and signs of use, along with original and worn paint. It looks, up close, like someone got a little heavy handed with a buffer. Don't buy this great car to win shows and beauty contests, buy it to drive as intended, or win on the auto-x or track. 944s can be found at a variety of prices, often ranging from $1,500 to $15,000. It is important to know what you are getting, and, as always, a little research goes a long way. These cars (as with most Porsches) enjoyed continued improvements throughout their lifespan. The 'cheapest' cars often tend to be the pre 1985.5 cars, which are also the most primitive of the platform. The mid year '85 upgrade was a drastic improvement, and most experts recommend looking for a later car. 1987 was an important year as well, as it was the first year for a spring loaded tensioner for the 944 timing belts. This is a significant improvement, and makes these cars more reliable, and therefore desirable. Excellence Magazine places the current market value of the base 1987 944 at $5,000-$7,000. 'S' cars, with the increased horse power and options, command a premium on the base cars, and there really is a noticeable difference between the two. Excellence market value puts the 'S' version between $6,000-10,000. and points out that they expect to see values climb (as all classic Porsches have), as good examples are getting more difficult to find. Get one now, while you still can at a reasonable price! This example has always been maintained very well mechanically. It has a fresh timing belt with less than 3K miles on it. Also recently replaced are: *Timing Belt *Battery*Brakes*Brake Lines*Starter/Solenoid*Tires - 75+% This 944S retains all of it's original keys (including valet & wheel lock key), as well as the original books and manuals. It is fitted with a K&N air filter, as well as a newer aftermarket CD player, and these are essentially the only non stock items on the car. All power features (heat, A/C, power windows, etc) work as they should, and all glass is in good shape. This is important, as these 'details' can add up quickly in the cost of a 944. The only real "issue" with the car is a slight power steering leak, which is pretty common on 944s. Fix or replace the rack, or if you are buying the car with performance or competition in mind, you'll likely elect to remove the power steering anyway. Also, and as usual, the odometer is broken, the the true exact mileage of the car is unknown (it currently reads 129,063). However the title states the mileage as 121,000 as of 2006, and the odometer just broke a year or so ago, so it's not too far off, if that concerns you. This is an inexpensive repair at North Hollywood or Palo Alto Speedo repair - both experienced VDO gauge repair facilities. Overall, this is a nice clean car, all straight, and drives great. Please don't expect perfection, as I have tried to be as upfront and transparent about the car as possible. I am a multiple Porsche owning enthusiast, and tend to have a very critical eye. This is a NO RESERVE auction, so please bid accordingly, and leaving room in your budget for any repairs you deem worthwhile. Or buy the car and drive it as is. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 100 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. Very reasonable shipping arrangements can usually be arranged through Uship.com, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. NO RESERVE AUCTION, PLEASE INSPECT FIRST, THEN BID TO WIN & BID TO OWN. Good luck!On Dec-17-14 at 05:36:03 PST, seller added the following information: *Just to clarify, you may have noticed that I described this car as having a 'limited slip transmission', in the text above. The more correct description, as I'm sure most reading this already know, would be 'limited slip differential'. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Good luck!
