Vehicle Detail
1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia including original tool kit. When I was 18 I searched for a solid year for just the right Karmann Ghia. I found this little gem in Sonoma, CA and purchased it from the original owners daughter. Fun facts about the original owner are that he was in a barbershop quartet and left a pair of his work overalls in the well under the back 'shelf'. His daughter Renee was nice enough to hold the car for me for a whole year while I made payments on it. She faithfully mailed me receipts for each payment. I was working at a craft store for $5/hr at the time! When I finally took possession of the car in 1999, my parents did a lot of work on it for me as a gift. They had it re-painted, new windshields installed, new dash, re-covered the seats, installed a new headliner (insulated), new dual tail pipes and generally spruced up the rest. Oh and of course the beetle floor mats! This car sparked a trend in our family and we went on to collect two more Ghias! A 1972 and a 1967. Those two have long been sold, but this baby has been with me ever since. My dad christened it Orange Crush :) This car is full of nostalgia for me. Long drives around this beautiful state just for the fun of it (when I still thought driving was fun!), piling a friend or two in the back on more than one occasion (live dangerously!), fun times meeting new friends when I was in need of a push start, and people starting conversations with me at stop lights because they had a question about my car. For as hard as I worked in my twenties putting myself through college, my pleasures were simple ones. Sweet, sweet times! So why am I selling this car you may ask? I am a mom now and Karmann Ghias don't accommodate car seats! My husband has driven this car more than I have in recent years but at 6'4'', he's not a fan of its compact cuteness. I've been putting this off for five years, but now I have a friend with two kids who needs protection from the abusive and manipulative father. He and his family fabricated evidence that my friend was actually the abuser and a drug addict to boot. She has not seen her kids for almost two months now because based on that 'evidence' he was granted emergency custody. Her day in court is coming, and we look forward to all being put right again, but I would love to give her the proceeds from the sale of this car to pursue a civil case against him. Anyone else care to tell a jerk "You can't do that!"? For these reasons, I implore you to bid with a little more enthusiasm than you might normally. I'm not a mechanical person, but if you have any questions, ask and I'm sure my dad will have the answers. The car runs, but as it doesn't get a whole lot of use, it takes some effort to get it going. It also hesitates from stop to go. In the past, a good tune-up and timing and adjusting the points (just repeating what I hear!) has always done the trick. Highlights: This car was repainted in the early 2000's. Looks satisfactory, but not a perfect job, minor imperfections. Seats, dash, headliner all re-done. Windshields were also replaced in the early 2000's and are clear and beautiful. Includes original Volkswagen tool kit, VERY HARD TO FIND! California car, body in excellent condition. Thanks for reading, everyone! Merry Christmas!
