Vehicle Detail

For sale is a pretty nice 1980 Diesel Mercedes Benz 300SD. This car is in pretty nice shape. It is far from perfect, but it runs and drives great and the body is in quite impressively nice condition with only a couple very small dents. Pretty amazing for a car of this age. This model is very classy. Transmission shifts nice and smooth. Been getting about 28 MPG with it. I drive it regularly. It is a nice classic looking car. The heater and defroster works good. I'm not entirely familiar with the automatic climate control system or how it is supposed to work. I have two old diesel Mercedes cars, and they both have the same issues with the climate control system. Being that it is either on or off. I don't know if that is how it is supposed to work or not. All I know, is that on this car it does by Notificatoin" id="_GPLITA_1" href="http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4770577179.html#">indeed blow warm air when you need it to, and that is what is most important. The power windows work, but I think the right rear window doesn't like to go down. Hasn't been a problem for me. I made sure the by Notificatoin" id="_GPLITA_2" href="http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4770577179.html#">drivers side window rolled up and down, and that was most important. The good: Runs and drives great. Body is almost completely dent free. The bad: The paint is faded in places on the hood and roof. The door seals or something lets rain get in the car, so when it rains hard, there is often by Notificatoin" id="_GPLITA_3" href="http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4770577179.html#">standing water in the floor boards. The seats are okay, but as you can see in the pictures, have few issues. The rear by Notificatoin" id="_GPLITA_4" href="http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4770577179.html#">seat is out of a 1984 300D, and therefore it does not line up with the mounts, and is just kind of sitting loose in place. The carpet and things inside are pretty dirty, but the headliner is almost perfect. The left rear door sometimes doesn't want to open. If you are familiar with how the by Notificatoin" id="_GPLITA_5" href="http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4770577179.html#">latch mechanism works in these old Mercedes......there is a weight in there, that uses inertia when you tug on the door handle. That weight moves, and in turn opens the latch that holds the door closed. When I first bought this car, I thought the rear doors just didn't open from he outside, until I took the latch apart to see why it wasn't working, and discovered that I just wasn't understanding how to quickly tug to make that weight do its job. However, like I said, the left rear door sometimes for some reason just decides it doesn't want to open. Then the next day, it will open just fine. Even when it doesn't want to open from the outside, it ALWAYS opens from the inside because the inside handle interacts with the latch in a different way. Some strange German thing I guess. ha ha All three of the other doors open perfectly fine all the time both from inside and out. Someone with a little more patience and time will just have to figure out the left rear door latch. I'm sure it's a simple fix. This is really a fairly nice classy, good running, driving Mercedes. Like I said, I drive it regularly. I just have too many cars. Tags are good til November 2015.
