Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1969 Ford Galaxie XL Fastback. I have owned it since about 2001 and have had it running and driving most of that time. Overall this is nearly rust free and very solid car. I bought it i Birmingham AL where it was sold new at Jim Skinner Ford and it lived in Birmingham until I brought it to Missouri in 2001. I originally bought it as a parts car for my convertible, but didn't have the heart to tear it apart. About 4 years ago my nephew wanted to drive it, so I slapped a quick, cheap paint job on it and upgraded all the trim, fixing what little rust was present correctly with metal. The car runs and drives, passed inspection 3 months ago. You can cruise this car as is and it will be a lot of fun, or you can build it to your taste with a solid starting point. I do have a clear Missouri title in my name. If someone absolute has to have the data tag pictured, I can do it later. I will tell you this from the tag: It is a true XL fastback, 63C, paint code is A, raven black, it is the Y code 390 2v from factory, C6 trans and open diff 9 inch rear from factory, white comfort weave vinyl buckets with console. I will tell about upgrades later. This car has been hit in the left front at some point. The front end did align well and it does go straight down the road and brakes in a straight line, but the alignment guy told me the left side of the frame has been pushed back about a quarter inch, and the front bumper did need at least 3 shims to space the left side properly and the fender does not line up at the door correctly. Why is this car easily worth my starting price? New battery, new water pump, Hooker headers, Edelbrock performer intake, Holley 600 carb, 80,000 original miles on the 390, transmission shifts correctly, upgraded with 9 inch limited slip 28 spline rear end 2.75 rear gears, new gas tank 3 years ago. Just rebuilt the front end, new springs, upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, idler arm, upper control arm bushings, shocks, sway bar end link and strut rod bushings. New headliner - not perfect installation but not torn or sagging. The door panels are nice, arm rests also nice, just don't match. Console and shifter are super nice. Grille was NOS when installed 4 years ago, rear reflector was NOS , quarter window moldings (boomerangs) were NOS, 390 bezels were NOS, wheel lips are super nice originals, all the rest of the aluminum trim is either NOS with minor flaws or super nice used original . Glass is all good. XL emblems and wreaths on hood and C pillar were NOS 4 years a go (one side emblem is a little faded already). All that is easily worth 5000 dollars. That doesn't even touch the body yet. Quarters have no through rust, typical surface rust on wheel housings but no through rust. trunk floor is solid. only rust in floor pans was apparently a drip from the heater A/C box that soaked the carpet under passenger's feet. All else is surface rust only. Frame is not rusted but as stated before is not 100% straight, could be straightened by a good body shop. Vacuum headlights work like they should and stay closed for almost a week if you don't restart the car. The seats are tan leather seats out of a Volvo. They do not move and are in place for about a 5 foot 10 inch adult. The original buckets are included with the car. The car originally had a rim blow steering wheel. The horn ring is broken and it has cracks but it will go with the car. The A/C does not work. It needs at least a compressor. Fixing the A/C is about a 500 dollar job if you do most of it yourself. Pulleys and brackets are ALL there. The Magnum 500s have rust, tires really need replaced as they are over 10 years old. Paint shines but has many flaws, was a cheap, fast job using cheap materials, shows sanding scratches and has runs, had some chemical reactions or fish eyes. good 10 footer. I have really gone into more detail than I planned. If you have questions please call Jeff at 573-837-8985 or email via ebay message PAYMENT - I do require a 500 dollar deposit via paypal within 72 hours of the auction close, remainder will be worked out after close of auction, but funds will be either cash or in my account and verified before I sign over the title or let the car leave my possession. Local pick up is preferred. I may be able to deliver the car for the cost of my trip up to about 500 miles. Details will be worked out with the buyer after auction ends. I prefer to have the car inspected personally before deal is finalized to make sure everyone is happy. One last note - if you have an XL convertible that is rusty and you are trying to restore it as a nice driver, this would be an excellent way to get nearly every part you need.
