Vehicle Detail

The car we're looking to sell is a 2000 VW Jetta GLX VR6 with an automatic. This is the one that everyone wants - a strong V6 in a little car, and it's very quick. We bought it from the original owner back in March of 2012, and he had owned it since it was new. We have all of the service records. It's white and the body is virtually rust free except for one spot at the front edge of the hood, two small nicks in the paint on top of the hood, a bit of rust at the bottom edge of the trunklid, and the back edge of the rear driver's side wheel arch. All are just starting to show through the paint, but nothing is rusted through. We will also include a used rear decklid spoiler for this car in the same color, as we never got around to mounting it.Car has a nearly spotless tan leather interior (no rips) with a power sunroof, heated power seats, and the Monsoon stereo system. Everything works just fine.Mechanically, the car has 150k miles and just passed NY state inspection back in June. After we bought the car, we replaced the thermostat housing, thermostat, "crack pipe", ignition coil and wires, camshaft position sensor, a/c pressure switch, rear springs and mounts, front struts, and front/center exhaust pipe. Back in March, we also installed new brake calipers, pads, and rotors in the rear, and new rotors and pads in the front. The A/C blows cold as we replaced the compressor last year.A month ago, the car started acting up. It runs, but it's pretty rough now (although CEL is not on), and it needs to have the timing chains and guides replaced. OEM parts for the job can be bought for about $450 online, and I have a parts list and printed step-by-step repair guides from the VWVortex website (will send link after purhase). The VW dealer wanted a ridiculous amount of money to fix it -- more than the car is worth, so if you're mechanically inclined, it's definitely worth fixing. I would do it myself but just don't have the time.We also suspect the car may need a catalytic converter. When we ran it recently, it smelled a bit like rotten eggs. The only other issue is a rattle in the rear passenger door. We found a series of videos on YouTube (link to be provided) that explain and show exactly how to fix it. The parts run about $10.It looks great for a 14 year old car, it drives nicely, and we already put quite a bit of time and money into it. The car is definitely worth saving if you don't have to pay a professional mechanic to fix it. Buyer is wholly responsible for arranging pickup or shipping of this vehicle.
