AZ 1969 396 Camaro Sport Coupe Original 4 speed Camaro 54K certified AZ original miles Private Sale-No tax ****************************************SCROLL DOWN TO 60 second UTUBE VIDEO***************************************** First, check my feedback on the very few Arizona cars I have sold on Ebay in my 14 year history. Notice that all have sold at the Buy it Now, or bidding actually exceeded the Buy It Now at the auction end. I am a senior restorer and collector of Camaros and Chevelles. I am always on the hunt for muscle cars with long time AZ history. I encourage an inspection but do it before you put in your final bid. This Big Block Camaro is not advertised anywhere else. Serious bidders can email for my phone number as I want all your questions answered. General DescriptionThis is a factory CA (Van Nuys) built Camaro, therefore, no X codes. What I can say with relative certainty based on the VIN, it was originally a V8. It came with a factory 4 speed. (Not a 6 cylinder converted to a V8, which can be told from the VIN number.) It does have a warmed over1969 396. This Camaro starts immediately with no pedal, idles great, has seriously brutish acceleration, drives and stops straight, and sounds like the muscle car it is. At this point, there are only a few minor things left to do. What is very rare is that this Camaro's entire body and frame condition is exceptional. The best I have seen in many years of collecting. Also, the AZ mileage of 57,000 is certified on the title. The floor pans, quarters, even the trunk pans appear to be unrusted factory originals. The Hurst Quarterstick was designed to be shifted, and it works well, once you figure out how to use it. This car exemplifies what a really low mileage life in Central or Southern Arizona means to a muscle car's life expectancy. I have recently restored a 65 Chevelle from Florida that was dealer represented as "solid" and " rust free" car and a similar description for a 68 RS SS Oklahoma Camaro and a Texas 69 Camaro. I cannot tell you how many thousands I have spent on those same cars just in metal work. Its been a very expensive lesson. Background/HistoryI bought this 69 396 Camaro locally as it was a daily driver with an 80% completed restoration in Hugger Orange & SS badged. There was a whole lot of trim missing which we replaced with all new. After some weeks at my builders shop, we now have this one "sorted." The prior owner who drove most of the 57K miles on the odometer said years ago it was kept garaged and mostly used for weekend events and drag races before he acquired it, which explains the exceptionally low mileage. Glove box records show it has been AZ licensed for at least the last 10 years, and still is. Although it may have been drag raced, there are no frame or suspension modifications such as traction bars. Undercarriage-See pictures My builder inspected the undercarriage and we replaced bushings that had dried out and cracked, replaced a leaking transmission seal, replaced rear shocks, added some missing bolts, changed the oil w/zinc additive, and plugs, adjusted the valves and brakes and readjusted the new exhaust system that the installer misaligned. Floor pans and trunk pans and frame look sound and Factory Original. The quarter panels appear original as well. I was going to splatter paint the trunk but decided to just vacuum it so that you can see how good it is and that there are no welded panels etc..just a little of the factory splatter paint is visible on the trunk floor which matches the original splatter pattern on the rear seat braces. Before the car is picked up I am having my builder install polyurethane rear body mount bushings that are really cracked and brittle. I just received from Summit today.I had a 2.5" American thunder Flowmaster muffler system recently installed from the headers all the way back. (with a warranty)The rear end is a 10 bolt positraction and has the optional multi leaf springs. Engine BayThe current engine is a detailed era correct 1969 396 block built to emulate, if not and probably exceed, the 69 375/425hp version with a street cam, later year performance heads w/ roller rockers, Edelbrock Aluminum High Rise with a Holley dual inlet 3310-1 (780cfm) and upgraded Accell HEI_Ignition. It obviously runs a street cam with a nice lumpy sound. Inner fenders, firewall, core support and shock towers all look good. Cooling is an upgraded Craig radiator (CA mfr.)with Flex Lite fan and additional pusher electric fan that, once rewired with a relay and a switch, works well. I drove it in 100 degree heat with no problems even before we fixed the electric fan. Exterior Cosmetics/Trim/GlassIn my opinion, this was a body-on restoration maybe 5+ years ago with what appears to be a professional factory matched Hugger Orange 2 stage paint, striped and clear coated. There appears to be only one paint layer over the primed steel body. The paint still shines great with no cracking, nor peeling clearcoat, and the black stripes over the cowl hood still look extremely good.... no sun damage. It Does have some touched up door edge chips so I had the doors realigned at my body shop and the panel fitment is now quite good for the vintage. They did replace chrome beaded window felts and installed an all body weather stripping kit and it is still soft and flexible. I would call the paint a nice driver quality or local show quality. Most people say, wow, its beautiful. Strangers use their phones to video tape the car everywhere its parked around town. It has a very nice stance as well. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I grade the paint condition a 7.5-8. I have "9" car that was a body off, so I know the difference. Plastic lenses, new bumpers and front and rear bumper guards, lower spears, wheel well moldings, door handles, mirrors and most all of the exterior trim parts were recently installed, so the chrome and trim is essentially all NEW. The windshield and rear window moldings are good originals which tend to fit better than the reproductions. The Soft Ray Tinted Glass is all very nice still and, except for the tinted replacement windshield, it is LOF. Not the usual scratched up windows. After some tedious work the front windows now roll up and down and doors close nicely and lock. Rear windows are a bit tight and take some coaxing rolling up. Wheels and TiresBrand new American Racing brand Torque Thrust and Brand new BFG Radial T/As 215/65R fronts, 275/60R rears. Interior/GaugesInterior is correct for the trim tag, Standard Black Interior restored more recently, including new carpet set, sill plates & door panels. The bucket seats may have been rebuilt or re-foamed as they are not saggy or have noisy springs. All the vinyl looks very nice. The dash pad appears to be the original and in good shape. The headliner is the original Blue and looks ok, one sag spot, I have new sail panels for it. Seating is quite good with no tears or holes at all, front or back. Visor set is missing, all door handles and window cranks are present and working. Headlights, turn signals, brake lights, horn and fuel gauge work as designed. Speedo worked when I bought it but it came back from the muffler shop without the cable. the one I ordered has wrong connector, so reordered and it will be installed. Supplemental oil pressure, water temp and amp aftermarket gauges are installed in the dash and are functioning. Wiper motor is not wired, motor is there, transmission arm for blades is in place and attached under the cowl, however. The Camaro has a Pioneer CD/MP3 player with 2 Bass woofer hookups and two upgraded speakers in the rear deck. Sounds like really good speakers that can handle a lot of volume without distortion. DriveabilityA daily driver. Not only a comfortable ride but it starts quickly, drives and steers straight, shifts properly. Excellent oil pressure. Due to its weekend warrior history, the heater box & blower on firewall was removed many years ago but the under dash box, vents and dash controls are still present, however. Freshly tuned with Accel wire set and new plugs. No smoke from the engine even after sitting. No detonation on premium gas. No Holley carb leaks. No exhaust leaks, No noises of concern as respects, grinding or humming in the drivetrain. Does have effective power steering and Positraction which are critical, in my opinion. Brakes were bled recently so fluid is new. While they are not disk brakes, they are adequate. One buyer came to see it and said it looks exactly as described and sounds great.I would sell the muncie 4 speed which a transmission builder said did not need work and could be bolted in. Total package price to winning bidder as an option is 975. I cannot guarantee any of it but you can talk to the transmission builder.
