RE-LISTING since the original auction winner did not want the car. I will address his concerns below: I bought this car on eBay a couple of months ago; I had owned one years ago and it stands out as the best car I have owned (and I've owned 22!). In truth, it was an impulse, emotion-and-nostalgia-fueled purchase that I can't justify keeping given a busy work travel schedule, two small children, and a lot going on. Here is your chance to own a REALLY nice classic 5-series and to let my rash decision get you a great deal. This generation 5-series is among the very best cars that BMW has ever built. With proper care, the engines and transmissions last forever, the cars tend not to rust (this one has NO rust at all), and they offer a truly remarkable balance of sporty handling, luxurious appointments, and long-range comfort. Check out what owners say about this car on consumer review boards such as Edmunds and you will see that this is a beloved car by many (including me). This particular car is incredibly well-preserved. It has 77,200 miles (it will have a few more by the time it sells) and had one owner until I bought it. I had the car given a full run-through at my trusted local mechanic's shop. He said that it is in great shape. He installed a new battery, replaced the thermostat, performed an alignment, and gave the car an oil/fluids service. The ONLY problems I know of are an occasional "low coolant" warning light that is in fact a bad sensor in the radiator. My mechanic says that it's a cheap part but one that will entail a few hours of labor, so I just ignore it when it comes on. The coolant level is fine; there are no leaks, the radiator is in good shape, and the engine runs at the correct temperature. It's just an old and therefore finicky sensor. Also, the glove box has come off its hinge, so when it opens it hangs down. It stays closed just fine. There is an occasional rattle from what I think is a loose tweeter in the left-front dashboard speaker. It could use an A/C recharge. Overall condition is very good, as the pics show. Car looks great from 5 feet away. Up close, there are a few spots where the previous owner has applied paint touch-ups for road chips, and there are a few scratches, dings, and pits as you'd expect of a 19-year-old car. Inside, the car is lovely. Again, there are a few minor imperfections here and there, but the basics (seats, leather quality, headliner, all the motors for power equipment, etc.) are all terrific. The car is not mueuem-quality, but given that it's cheaper than a used Civic with 150,000 miles on it, it's a very nice car to behold and to drive. My reserve is THOUSANDS less than I paid (less than half), because I paid high retail given the car's condition and mileage and because I know that I'll never get dealer pricing for it. This is a nice, reliable car. I wish that I could keep it, but that just doesn't make sense for me right now and I am selling to undo my impulse decision. My decision to sell has nothing to do with the car--it's great. I bought it with my heart and not with my brain (or my wife's strong objections to a 3rd car) at the forefront of my thoughts. You can pick the car up locally (in Middlebury, Vermont) or you can arrange and pay for shipping. I am willing to discuss letting you drive it home on my plates and insurance if that helps, and I am certainly willing to help a shipper take delivery of the car for you. Why did the original auction winner not want the car? He said that he found evidence that the car had been in some kind of accident. I do not see it, but perhaps he is right. The car had a clean CarFax when I bought it, and, ironically, the paint imperfections that exist suggest to me that the paint is original. If you want to have a professional examine the car, then make arrangements and I will help to get it to a local shop. I have nothing at all to hide and in fact would love to have you have it examined so that there are no surprises when you get the car. I forgot to disclose originally that there seems to be a loose cable in the shifter mechanism. The car shifts just fine but the little button doo-hickey under the shifter that you squeeze to change gears is loose. Not worth fixing, in my opinion. This BMW is not perfect, but it's a very nice car to look at and to drive and, for the money, it's hard to beat.On Oct-17-14 at 08:05:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Information: --I have only one key for the car. Additional keys can be ordered through any BMW dealer for about $100. --The Autocheck here on the eBay site mentions 5 owners. I don't know what to say about that since the car was CarFax 1-owner certified when I bought it and I have that paperwork. Thanks for looking!
