Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE! You're looking at a 2008 Tesla Roadster, this is Roadster number 301 produced by Tesla, with 5103 miles. It is a gorgeous car from the left side, but the right side is damaged. I bought this car last week as a project car, but I have realized I simply don't have the time or expertise to make it all work. Most likely I'll sell it at a significant loss. This could be a great car or good for parts, so I suppose my loss is your gain. I do not have keys, no hard top or soft top, and the battery has dipped a bit too low to charge through the normal method (was alive as of 10/6). I will include the charge cord, which I just bought new for about $1700. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8tT4Sa8X64 Details - This Roadster has only 5130 miles on it. On the title, this is shown as non-actual miles. Many people bought these Roadsters as second or third cars and drove them very little, so I think the mileage is accurate, although the person recording the title may not have believed it. Most of the body on the left side looks very nice, tires look like they are hardly used. Many nice elements overall. Please see pics. I'll try to note a few items that are damaged. The right side front fender, door sill, and rear quarter panel were damaged and the door was damaged significantly so it was removed except for the support bar that goes inside. I have the door interior panel, door latch and wiring harness, and while not perfectly pristine, they look like they could be re-used. On the passenger side, the car frame runs through the area your feet would step over as you enter. The top of the frame near the seat looks to have been pressed inward, perhaps an inch, which occurred during the damage. To me, the bottom of the frame seems to be straight, because the underside of the car looks basically flat underneath the seats (normal). Also, the door latch area on the body seems to have been pressed inward slightly at the time of damage. I'm not a car body expert, but that's what it looks like to me. I believe this can be fixed if you have the right skills and equipment. Other items - I didn't receive keys with the car, so no keys are included. The factory navigation/radio head unit is there and looks fine while off, operation not verified. The e-brake handle is a little bent and the button sticks a bit. The center console has some cracks - front and a small one at the rear, and flashers button is missing. The battery was low when I got the car, but it took me 2 days to get the charge cable, and the charge has dipped too low to start charging through the normal method. The dashboard computer display is off due to the low battery. If you know what you're doing, you can most likely open the pack put charge into each section and re-assemble, as that is what I had planned to do initially. The right tie-rod is broken so the right wheel does not steer but rotates and moves fine. Ball joints seem smooth as normal. Alignment on some body panels may be very slightly off. Minor bumper damage around some wheel areas. Left side hood latch is stuck. Headlights look great overall but are very lightly worn on their inner edges. The airbags appear intact, but the passenger airbag cover detaches at a light touch and may need attention. Floor mats may be slightly damp as vehicle was exposed to rain before I bought it. I have always stored inside. Interior has a many components that look good. Has original Tesla floor mats in excellent shape. Of course there may be a ding or scuff here and there as you would expect on any used car. And you get whatever is in the trunk - could be a convertible soft top, a set of keys, and a charge cord - or could be empty. Ok, I have written a ton here, maybe not every detail, but hopefully this helps. See pics and video. Ohio salvage title, free and clear, in my name and ready to be signed over. Please familiarize yourself with these cars before bidding/buying. Currently stored in Florence, KY. Sold as-is. Questions? Want to see? Call me 513-884-2006. On Oct-10-14 at 14:42:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Answer to a question: I received a question about the condition of the windshield, the touchscreen display, and the wheels, so I thought I would post this info here as well. The windshield is not cracked, it appears to be in good shape. The display worked fine when I first got the car. The touchscreen worked fine and everything; it would show that the battery needed to be charged, and you could dismiss the message to get to the rest of the menu options. Most surfaces on the rims look really nice (the clear coating is intact) and the wheels don't have all the road dirt and wear that I usually see on used car wheels. I'll try to provide some detailed notes on the wheels and any blemishes since I was asked: One wheel looks nearly flawless except for a tiny nick. Two of the wheels are fine but have a couple small "smudge" looking marks around their edges. Finally, the right-front wheel has a small area that is very slightly depressed (in the direction toward the center line of the car, not toward the center axis of the wheel) by about 1/16" to 1/8" on one edge. That edge remains round as far as I can tell. It's basically impossible to see this from a distance. Actually I never noticed myself until I was asked. Personally I would use all these wheels and tires just as they are with no hesitation. Generally, the wheels are in the condition you would expect for a 2008 car with some miles but not a lot. Tires hold air just fine. Please send me a message if you would like closer pics of the wheels. Thanks. On Oct-12-14 at 10:10:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Answer to questions about battery pack: I have received several questions about the condition of the battery pack, so I would like to clarify the description above. The charge in the battery pack is currently too low to charge the pack normally, meaning that if you simply plug in the charge cord, it will not begin to charge. This is because the car has an onboard computer that needs to be powered up in order to start the charging process, and it does not have sufficient charge to power up the onboard computer. Normally in this type of situation, Telsa would not recommend that you re-use the battery pack. However, this has happened so recently that I believe there is a very good chance that you can bring the battery back to life. The battery was alive but low on 10/6/14 and could have charged normally, so I rushed to find a charge cord, but by the time I got the cord 2 days later, the battery was too low to able to charge normally. If you know what you are doing, I believe there is an excellent chance you can open up the pack, trickle charge the battery or its elements, and bring it back into operation, although it is possible you may lose some range. This is what I had planned to do initially as I expect a reasonably high chance of success. Still, I cannot make any guarantees, and it will be up to the skills, equipment and expertise of the buyer to make this happen. On Oct-12-14 at 13:47:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Further clarification on the battery pack - The battery pack would require special procedures to become operational and may or may not be usable. I feel there is a very good chance it can be used, but this would require expertise and likely some equipment on the part of the buyer. I have done my best to describe. Please send me a message with any questions, or feel free to call me 513-884-2006. On Oct-13-14 at 15:03:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Update about condition of the right-front wheel/rim and transporting the car: Someone has asked me to jack up the front of the car and rotate the right-front wheel to check it. I have done this and it reveals that the wheel is damaged or in need of repair or replacement, although I would not have been able to tell by just looking at it. The tire looks like it can still be used as it is (although I am not a tire expert). Here is a video of spinning the left-front wheel which normal and the right-front wheel which is not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHGYFX62eaE Also, I received a question about whether the rear wheels will roll so the car can be transported. I'm not sure, so I have decided to play it safe - I have purchased 2 wheel jack/dollies which lift the rear wheels off the ground just slightly so the car can be rolled wherever you like. These will be included in the sale. I recommend that you use a transporter that can move the vehicle enclosed and with a winch to load vehicles that are not running. These were common options when I arranged transportation for the car earlier. On Oct-13-14 at 15:06:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Answer to questions about whether I have estimates for part prices or repair costs: I do not have any estimates on parts or repairs and I had planned to do much of the work myself. Please do your research on how to get parts and do repairs before bidding/buying. Thanks. Questions? Send a message or call me 513-884-2006.On Oct-15-14 at 19:36:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Final reminder - Please note this car is sold as-is. I just received a question asking whether the car is 100% fully functional, and clearly from the description this is not the case. I have made my best attempt to describe this Roadster including its body, battery, electronics, etc., but I'm not an expert and cannot claim total knowledge over every aspect of this car. Keep in mind this is a used car with some damage, sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied. Please read the description carefully. Thanks. Questions? Send a message or call me 513-884-2006.
