Vehicle Detail

For Sale: 1978 Pontiac Trans Amwith only 19,200 Original Miles in its one year onlycolor of Martinique Blue This unique Trans Am was recently pulled out of its 21 year storage and gone through to make it road worthy again. The last time it was registered to drive was 1993 and the car still has its 1993 license plate and registrations to support it. History: The original owner lived in Wyoming, MI and kept the car for two years and only drove it 5,000 miles. He purchased the car from Orson E. Coe Pontiac in Grand Rapids, MI. The original owner sold the car on August 27, 1980 to the second owner who also lived in Wyoming, MI and she only drove the car 14,000 miles between 8/27/1980 and 1993 before taking it off the road. She told me that it was her "baby" and only drove it to car shows and to get ice cream on the weekends in the summer with her husband. She owned this Trans Am for 34 years before allowing me to purchase it and bring it back to driving condition. When I acquired the car it did not run and needed to be gone through to make sure it could be driven. A new battery was installed, fuel system was flushed, engine was tuned up, fluids changed, new water pump and lower radiator hose was installed, brakes were inspected, and a new headliner was installed because it was sagging. I am please to say it starts up with ease and the choke and carb work properly even when the secondaries open under strong acceleration. The brakes grab nice and firm and stop the car with ease. The transmission shifts nice and crisp as it should but may need a rear tail seal. I noticed a small amount of fluid on the floor after driving it. It may swell up after being driven more and exercised. The factory A/C still works and cools the car very well. The oil pressure is strong and the coolant temp runs around 185 after warmed up. Overall it runs and drives like a new car. The exhaust system is even all original with its catalytic converter still in place and functioning properly. The engine is the original numbers matching 400 Z code Pontiac motor that the car was built with and the engine compartment is 100 percent bone stock with exception to the new water pump I installed. Nothing has been spray painted or altered from new. The GM emission tag is still in place with its 400 CU IN engine designation. The interior is absolutely beautiful and original and still has that new car smell. The only thing I did to the interior was install a new headliner. All the trim, dash, carpet, door panels, etc. are original and in mint condition. All of the instrument gauges function properly from the tach to clock to speedo to temp gauge to volt meter and more. You will not have to fix anything on the interior of this car. The body and paint on the car is extremely nice and does not need any work. The car has four Pontiac mud flaps behind each wheel which have done their job by keeping stone chips off the car. The rockers and rear quarters are free off any road rash because of these mud flaps. The decals are all original and in great condition. It does not need any new decals. The bottom of the doors are perfect with its original factory appearance and the drivers door still retains its original GM labels Overall you will be very pleased with its original appearance. You will not need to spend any money on the body or paint for this car. The trunk compartment is all original with its factory "felt" mat and space saver spare with cartridge. The jack is still in place underneath the rear package tray and still retains all of it zinc plating. Just close the trunk because it is perfect. The wheels are the optional WS6 8" style rim and the tires are the original white letter Goodyear Poly Steel Radials. To my surprise they are in great condition and do not have any dry rot or weathering. They are in amazing condition and still have rubber nipples on all four. I've looked deep between the tread of all four and I think they do not need to be replaced if you just use the car for pleasure cruising or car shows. Because of the age of the tires you may consider upgrading to a newer tire for safety reasons. I understand that these same tires are manufactured today to keep with the original OEM style appearance. Paperwork: I have good paperwork for the car including original owners info on warranty book, gm papers, Michigan RD-108 for transfer to second owner, registration for license plate up to 1993, insurance docs for registrations, and more. Good paper trail for the next owner. Also a very unique one year only design 1980 Title from State of Michigan with Gold Seals.(Try and keep it when you transfer it to yourself). I am selling the car "as is" because of it age so call me at 248-760-0021 to ask any questions you may have. It is a great car the runs and drive very smooth so bid or buy with confidence. Shipping is your responsibility, but I will be happy to help coordinate if you need me to. Thanks for viewing my auction. Bob
