Vehicle Detail
0 0 1 606 3456 Univ of TN Health Science Center 28 8 4054 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Up for sale is my all-original 1977 VW Westfalia Pop-top Camper with 94,808 original miles on it… I don’t think you’ll find a nicer original example of a Westfalia, unless preserved in a museum, & this one has been used as intended, yet cared for as family… This Westy sports the original 2.0L Bosch fuel–injected engine that fires right up & runs strong across town or across country… Strong engine w/no issues other than the typical push-rod tube leak when first parked… This is a base model Westfalia, my choice, which does not include stove (nor propane tank below sliding door), & has an icebox vs a fridge (aka cooler), & sink (pump doesn’t work)… It does have 110v electrical hookup, & removable table (top is a Walnut replacement)… It sleeps 2 below & 2 above pretty comfortably, & while I don’t have the child’s cot, the mounts are there… The Pop-top canvas was replaced 4 yrs ago, & is like-new, including all 3 functioning zippered windows… I am the 4th owner… Original owner bought new in CT, before moving to Atlanta (believed to be Univ professor based on # of parking stickers I removed) & owned 18 yrs, 2nd owner had it 10 yrs, guy I bought it from had it almost 4 yrs, & I’ve had it 5+ yrs… I know all this because I have most paperwork, inc’l original manuals & factory owner-vehicle stamped-plastic ID card… I’m only selling due to another rescue dog that is 110 lbs & just not enough room, plus I really need garage space for new business… I have used this bus the past 5 yrs to attend music festivals, gen’l camping & AHRMA MX events across the southeast, typically with a friend, my dog Rosco, & pulling a small trailer w/ 2 vintage Bultacos… Yeah, I built a 2” hitch exchange into the rear bumper frame (nut just welded to bumper), as well as adding another 2” hitch exchange below front bumper (via a removable cradle frame) to carry either a cargo platform or hitch-based bicycle/scooter carrier… It’ll carry these loads over interstates maintaining 70mph w/ no problem & steering is nice & tight… Original: it is all-original in the upholstery, carpet, curtains, netting, most all the interior except some plastic accessories that were degrading terribly; grab-handles, clothes-hangers, etc… Dash is complete, original & no sun damage, w/ new turn-signal & flasher switches… Sun visors are removed, but included… Most of the Formica wood veneer is in good shape, inc’l all top surfaces, but there are some chips around floor & Rear door as seen in pics… Mechanically, in the past 2-4 yrs, I’ve replaced coil, distributor cap, plug wires, plugs, belts, & battery, as well as a complete brake system rebuild… Exterior has new turn lenses & tail-light assemblies, & tires only have about 6000 miles on them… Paint is mostly original, w/ some minor repair/paint done w/ original owner, even wheels are original paint & hubcaps… I have removed gov’t-BS bumper safety attachments, but have all original parts removed… There are a few dent’s (primarily R-Pass Upr-Qtr @ air-intake – baseball game) & typical wear & tear on 37-yr old paint as seen in pics… There is some minor surface rust around windshield seal & bottom of doors – caused by non-retractable seat-belts getting caught in door-jamb – but I replaced seatbelts w/ retractable (have original)… There is some rust at battery box floor, but I built a new aluminum battery tray w/ battery straps that sits over rusty tray area… Many might wonder why I didn’t do more “Restoration” on this Westfalia, but for me they’re only original once, & this was just far to excellent of an example, superbly maintained by 4 loving owners & used as intended throughout it’s life… Now, you can be the next owner of this great adventurous vehicle & start your own family adventures & memories… I’m sure you will love this Westy just as I & those before me have… Please feel free to contact me w/ any additional questions (I know I forgot something), or to request addn’l pics… I will assist w/ loading for shipper if needed… This Westy is for sale locally & auction could be ended if sold locally… On Aug-13-14 at 15:14:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Up for sale is my all-original 1977 VW Westfalia Pop-top Camper with 94,808 original miles on it… I don’t think you’ll find a nicer original example of a Westfalia, unless preserved in a museum, & this one has been used as intended, yet cared for as family… This Westy sports the original 2.0L Bosch fuel–injected engine that fires right up & runs strong across town or across country… Strong engine w/no issues other than the typical push-rod tube leak when first parked… This is a base model Westfalia, my choice, which does not include stove (nor propane tank below sliding door), & has an icebox vs a fridge (aka cooler), & sink (pump doesn’t work)… It does have 110v electrical hookup, & removable table (top is a Walnut replacement)… It sleeps 2 below & 2 above pretty comfortably, & while I don’t have the child’s cot, the mounts are there… The Pop-top canvas was replaced 4 yrs ago, & is like-new, including all 3 functioning zippered windows…I am the 4th owner… Original owner bought new in CT, before moving to Atlanta (believed to be Univ professor based on # of parking stickers I removed) & owned 18 yrs, 2nd owner had it 10 yrs, guy I bought it from had it almost 4 yrs, & I’ve had it 5+ yrs… I know all this because I have most paperwork, inc’l original manuals & factory owner-vehicle stamped-plastic ID card… I’m only selling due to another rescue dog that is 110 lbs & just not enough room, plus I really need garage space for new business…I have used this bus the past 5 yrs to attend music festivals, gen’l camping & AHRMA MX events across the southeast, typically with a friend, my dog Rosco, & pulling a small trailer w/ 2 vintage Bultacos… Yeah, I built a 2” hitch exchange into the rear bumper frame (nut just welded to bumper), as well as adding another 2” hitch exchange below front bumper (via a removable cradle frame) to carry either a cargo platform or hitch-based bicycle/scooter carrier… It’ll carry these loads over interstates maintaining 70mph w/ no problem & steering is nice & tight…Original: it is all-original in the upholstery, carpet, curtains, netting, most all the interior except some plastic accessories that were degrading terribly;
