Vehicle Detail

1971 Dodge Charger S/E 440 Magnum This is a numbers matching car. Original engine and transmission. Production figures for this option for a 1971 Charger with a 440 and S/E trim is quite low. As far as I know the number was 800 cars optioned this way. The last time I licenced this car was in 2000. It has been sitting in storage in my garage awaiting a nice redo/restoration since then. The engine started and ran every once in a while to keep everything free. Engine and Transmission : The engine is a 7.2, 440 Magnum engine. The engine was overhauled and rebuilt soon before going into storage in 2000. I would say less than 500 miles on the engine since rebuild. The transmission was also gone over about the same time. The engine has an Edelbrock aluminum intake and an aftermarket Holley double pump carb. I no longer have the original intake but I do have a Mopar thermoquad carb that these cars came with from factory. I don't know if the carb is off a 1971 model year, i had several Mopars at the time and carbs were interchanged between them occasionally. The cam is a hair over stock but nothing with a rough idle or lope to it. Brakes and Suspension : The brakes need to be gone thru for sitting. The caliper is grabbing and sticking on the drivers side as the pedal will stick to the floor and needs pulled back up to release the brakes. I am sure this is due to just sitting over the years and wont take much to free up. The pedal is solid so there are not any breaks or fluid loss. Included is an extra master cylinder with the car. The car is front disc rear drum set up. I also have a spare front rotor that goes with the car. Suspension is still factory. Leaf spring rear. The front suspension I haven't touched but everything seems solid and in tight shape. Gearing I believe are 3:23 but is a single rear wheel ...not a posi/sure grip differential. Interior and Climate Controls: The seats are a rare cloth/vinyl dark and light green but as you can see need re upholstered. The headliner is in one piece cloth and in very good shape..no sags or droops. The dash is cracked from the sun. I have a dash cap..not a full dash pad..just a plastic cap that will cover it also included with the car. There is no radio with the car. All the gauges work except the clock. the plactic cover for the instrument cluster over the clock was broken open when I got the car. Door panels are like new. I have a few A/C parts I salvaged off a 1972 Charger I had (see pics) that are included with the car. Basically the only thing missing is the condenser. Lights work as well as the headlight doors. The doors are eletric motor operated not vacum operated. The front grill is metal..not plastic like in later years. The glass is factory tint because of it being an A/C car. Exterior and Body : As you see. This is not a perfect car, but wont take much to be a real head turner. The paint was an arcrylic enamel base and didnt hold up. I have close ups of the bad spots and can e-mail you more detailed pics of needed. The car has a green landau half top but on the front section of the car not the rear which is a bit rare. The top was replaced and there is no wear to it. I have the front fender and rear quarter trim. Its the thick white metal pieces not just 'bands" (see pic). Trunk trim is also included in car. The trunk is solid except for a small rust hole starting on the drivers side arch where the spare tire sets. The drivers side floor pan should be replaced. It was patched and hobbled together. This was before sheet metal was available for replacements on these cars so had to make due. It doesnt leak or is a weak patch...just looks bad from underneath. Tires and Rims : Rims are aluminum aftermarkets as you can see 15 inch. The tires hold air and that's about it. I know I will get asked so here it is. 'Is the car drivable"... it moves ... it runs... it brakes... but due to tire condition and the set up of the brakes with the pull... I would deeply recommend the car should be towed or trailered for saftey issues. Please do not contact me with 'what will I take for it"...
