You are contemplating the purchase of one of the most iconic vehicles ever to roam the face of this earth. Yes, you are looking at the legendary BMW 2002 tii, the car that saved BMW and set the standard for small performance sedans. Find any legitimate automobile-related "best of..." or "greatest ever..." list and it will likely contain the BMW 2002tii. It is just that significant of a car. About this particular example: It is an original, matching numbers tii. Prior to my purchasing the car, it was solely owned by an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force (YES, it was a one-owner car!!!) With it's owner being in the Air Force, the car traveled around quite a bit. Purchased in Fort Worth, Texas, the car has service records from Georgia, Florida, California, and Hawaii. Previous owner took VERY GOOD care of this car. Did have top-end work and the engine honed and re-ringed at about 60,000. Receipts show lots of newer parts (radiator, drive shaft, fuel pump) and continuous maintenance. PO did tell me that he had the Kugelfischer pump rebuilt "by a shop in California" not too long ago. The fuel lines look really good and he took such great care of the car that I am inclined to believe him. When I purchased the car, it had just been brought out of a 9 year hibernation. It ran but the tires were crap and one of the brake calipers was frozen. I bought the car because there is VERY LITTLE RUST on this car. There is some on drivers side (jack fixture) and around the rear window but compared to what other cars deal with, this is insignificant. The frame rails and rockers are SOLID. The shock towers in the rear are SOLID. Interior is in outstanding condition. One SMALL tear in the headliner. NO TEARS in the seats. Carpet is not torn but is faded. Dash is in outstanding condition. A couple very small cracks where the gauge surround levels out but no other cracks. Paint is in very good condition. Car is currently missing belt trim on driver's front fender and I removed the lower rocker molding to get pics. Both are included with car. Since owning the car, I have completed the following work: 1. New Tires (Kuhmo Solus) 2. Rebuilt the entire brake system. This was not just a brake job - I refurbished or replaced almost every part of the system. Work included: a. new BMW rotors b. original calipers - rebuilt with BMW kits c. BMW pads d. BMW hardware e. ALL rubber brake hoses replaced with new BMW hoses (front and rear) f. NEW BMW tii brake master cylinder (including new plastic elbows and grommets) g. New hoses from fluid reservoir to master cylinder h. New Brembo drums I. New ATE (original spec) wheel cylinders j. New rear shoes (Ireland Engineering Budget - same he runs on his race cars) 3. Inspected / Refurbished fuel delivery system - Here, I inspected gas tank, cleaning pick-up screen, replaced all rubber fuel lines (mostly with BMW parts), replaced the main fuel filter in the engine bay, inspected screen in fuel pump (not there), replaced all three rubber isolators for fuel pump assembly, placed another fuel filer between tank and pump. Tank was immaculate. 4. Rebuilt the front end of the car - this included new tie rods, NEW BMW LOWER CONTROL ARMS, new center link, new idler bushings (blue BMW), new subframe bushings for connecting link bar thingies, new sway bar bushings, new Boge strut inserts, NEW BMW STRUT BEARINGS, new BMW foam bumpers, all hardware yellow cad plated. 5. Replaced lots of miscellanous stuff - rubber bellow from air filter to throttle body, new rubber washers for air cleaner assembly, new air filters, new battery, recent oil change with Brad Penn Green Oil, BMW oil filter, new shifter knob, and probably some things I cannot think of. 6. New plugs, rotor, distributor cap, plug wires 7. Flushed cooling system, replacing coolant with BMW smurf juice. Bottom line, this car is a driver. It stops VERY well, shifts great, and runs quite well for not having had a proper tune up. Lots of pictures so you can get a sense of how solid this car is. Factory Service Manual (2 volume set) Got a question about the color of the paint in the trunk. I took a better look and the greenish color was sprayed over the original Polaris Silver. Not sure why this was done. PO told me the car was involved in a SLIGHT accident after he got it (rear ended at movie theater) but he got that fixed. On Jun-15-14 at 10:00:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I was cleaning the trunk and found some evidence of rust repair in the spare tire wheel well. It is somewhat visible in the earlier shot of that area of the trunk but I thought I should post a better pic. If you have any questions, please let me know. On Jun-16-14 at 10:53:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Getting lots of questions so I thought I'd add a little to my description: I bought the car in October of last year. It sat in my garage for awhile as I worked on the brakes, front suspension, fuel delivery system, etc. I have put approximately 500 miles on the car after completing all of the work. I'm selling the car because I need room in my garage and this is the one that lost the straw poll. The 66 mustang fastback will stay and I will finally have the room I need to get her properly sorted out. I really do like this car a lot but the mustang is more "me". To they individuals who ask why they should bid on my car versus the other 2002's on Ebay: It is a matching numbers tii that still runs the Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system. Some tii's are running Webers. If you are a purist, those cars may still have some of the other parts specific to the tii - clock on dash, differences in front hubs, front and rear brakes, boxed rear swing arms, electric fuel pump, etc. - but without the fuel injection they are missing a HUGE part of what makes these cars so legendary. I have extensive records from the original owner. This car has been very well maintained throughout it's life. It is remarkably original. If you are looking for an excellent quality survivor, this is it. If you are looking for a new paint job, aftermarket rims, new upholstery, euro bumpers, etc. You will obviously want to look elsewhere. Remember, they are only original once! I have done extensive mechanical work. Have you priced a new braking system for a tii lately? A new front suspension? Replacement of fuel lines? I would estimate parts and labor to run $3-4,000 myself. Hope this helps and please keep the questions coming.
